On August 15th 1971 President Richard Nixon made a major announcement stating that the US Dollar would no longer be redeemable for gold. This meant that the Bretton Woods Monetary System was now over. This was a major shift in money and monetary policy. The world has since adapted, adjusted, and even flourished.
