Dez was in high school, and he had a serious crush on a girl he liked since the 8th grade - middle school years. But no matter what he did to prove how much he liked her, she always gave him the curve ball. He never gave up hope, though, and he waited for her to finally like him back. Chances are, she was always the first person on Dez's mind when he thought about Valentine's Day.
One day, Dez found out that his crush and her boyfriend broke up. In that moment, Dez was SO excited. He felt like he was finally going to have the chance to ask her out and become her boyfriend. He met up with her at a track meet, and he started to give her extra attention. They were flirting with each other and having fun.
The next day at school, Dez found out that his crush's ex boyfriend was REALLY mad. After finding out that Dez was flirting with his ex, the ex boyfriend starting spreading rumors about wanting to fight Dez at school. Dez didn't even realize that everyone was talking about him - he was too excited about the possibility of finally dating his crush!
Dez made his way to track practice, and he was shocked to see the ex boyfriend waiting for him after school. The ex boyfriend started yelling at Dez, asking him why he would make a move on "his girl." Dez responded by saying that he didn't do anything wrong - especially because the ex boyfriend had CHEATED on Dez's crush!
Then, the ex boyfriend told Dez that he wanted to fight him. Even though he was SO mad about the situation, Dez didn't want to risk getting his football scholarship taken away for fighting at school. But one thing led to another, and the two guys ended up yelling in the locker room. Just as they were about to fight, Dez's friends intervened and broke them up.
After that, Dez went up to his crush and told her the whole story. Dez's crush apologized for her ex boyfriend's behavior, and she promised that she wasn't getting back together with him. So, at that point, Dez was still under the impression that he was finally going to have a relationship with his crush.
However, the very next day, Dez went back to school to hear the worst possible news - his crush went right back to her ex boyfriend, and they were a couple again. Dez could hardly believe it, and in that moment, he might have said to himself, "I was crushed by my crush." He was embarrassed that he almost got into a fight at school over a girl who ultimately rejected him, and he vowed to never make the same mistake again.
