Fire Tornado

A story of one man's love of a fire tornado demonstration. A small metal container sits in the center of a 13" diameter turntable. Bending and clamping a brass screen (10 wires per inch) around the perimeter of the turntable forms a 36" tall cylinder. Isopropyl alcohol in the small metal container is lit, and the turntable is set in motion.

As the surrounding air is drawn to the flame, it is deflected from the center of the turntable as it passes through the openings in the screen. The resulting angular momentum of the gases helps to form a tall, twisting column of fire.
