The wasabi served alongside your sushi is most likely horseradish and mustard. Real wasabi is hard to come by because the plant is hard to cultivate. You can tell the difference between the two by looking at the texture. Real wasabi looks like a freshly grated carrot, while fake wasabi looks like Play-Doh.
