When working with plants or going for a hike in the woods, you should remember these sayings: “leaves of three, let them be”; “longer middle stem, don’t touch them”; and “hairy vine, no friend of mine.” All these sayings are to help remind us to be wary of a specific plant: poison ivy. If you’ve ever been in contact with poison ivy you probably know that it can cause itchiness and blisters on your skin. But why does it do this?
