Rose woke up with a start, drenched in icy sweat. She scrambled around in her nest, shaking her head as she desperately tried to clear the nightmare from her mind. It faded slowly, although the pain Dawn's claws had inflicted on her ebbed away like a slug crossing a branch.
It c-can't be real, Rose scolded herself sternly, shivering as the sweat trapped more air from outside, making her colder still. She vigorously washed herself, stroking her fur with her long pink tongue, her licks swift and brief. She felt scared- more scared than when Dawn had challenged her.
"It'll all be better in the morning," Rose told herself hopefully, yearning herself to believe it. But her brain wouldn't even take it into consideration. It seemed to shun the thought away like a pesky fly off her ear. "It will be better." She murmured again, curling up into a tight ball.
It has too.
