Rose stirred to bright yellow light. She yawned, rolled over sleepily, and stretched, her claws catching the shine of the sun, starching them a blinding silver. She flexed them, enjoying the way the glow bounced from one claw to the other, and straighten up stiffly.
See? She told herself harshly as she padded out of her den. Raindrops slid from the tall trees above onto her soft pelt and clung on its long, thin hairs. Everything is OK. At least so far.
Deciding to check if Dawn was scouting on her territory again, Rose bounded swiftly into the woods. Then she pressed her small black nose on the ground, extracting as many scents as possible from its own musky smell. She caught no whiff of her enemy's leaf-scented smell, but another fragrance met her nostrils.
What? The smell is of not another fox... But of another creature! The creature-! It can't be! Rose thought wildly.
"Little fox," rasped a voice behind her. "We have found the little fox."
Rose whipped around only to see a huge matted fur of white before darkness swallowed her whole.
