What you should do: Get to know them first--hang out together, make friends. It sounds lame but it's true: Even if they don't like you that way, you can still spend time with them. And who knows, maybe things will change eventually.
What you shouldn't do: Over-analyze every word they say. You'll just torture yourself. Ask a friend to talk to them. That will just make things more awkward. And DON'T DON'T DON'T act self-conscious or flirty around them, even if you think it'll make them like you faster. If you feel that way, push it down. They want to see the real you, not a clumsy or sassy you. If they don't like you for who you are, find someone else to date.
