grover: 2/10 I never really liked the more childish or fearful characters

Ok so i got this mafia inspired character named Sylvester right????

well i have a whole FREAKING LIST of last names from him and i caaaaant decideeeee

to summarize his character, hes a rich kid in the Victorian era who got cut off from his family for being a leech. he meets this stoic girl named Yuna Valiente (main character) and genuinely falls in love with her at first, but then the power of being the man in the relationship goes to his head and he starts being abusive.

hes brunette with icy green eyes and ivory skin and he has a dog named Highball. (if ykyk)

It was a hazy morning, and Will Solace was out bright and early. His quiver was thrown over his shoulder and his bow in hand. his brow was furrowed tightly, as he was lost in thought. He made his way to the archery range, a few wood nymphs and dryads peeking out of their places to watch the blonde boy walk by. Will stops just short of the range, seeing the Dark haired, thin silhouette of his boyfriend perched on a stone by the water. Will’s grip on his bow loosened, his face softening. There wasn’t much going on this early in the morning. A few campers on walks or chatting by the water. Nico didn’t take notice of Will, his eyes glazed over, looking out onto the water. Will heaves a sigh and sets his bow on the ground with his quiver. He slowly makes his way behind Nico. He snakes his arms around the dark-haired boy from behind, Nico jumps slightly. “Hey death boy...” Will murmurs. Nico’s eyes widen, then soften, leaning into Will’s touch. “Hello…” He says quietly. The blonde boy sits beside Nico, studying his profile. “You look like you have something on your mind…” Will whispered. Nico’s gaze on the lake flickered for a minute. “I… you could say that.” Will furrowed his brow, placing his hand over Nico’s gently, “Are you okay?” He asked. Nico took a minute to answer, as if choosing his words carefully. “Just… ever since the Hunter’s visited camp that summer… it reminded me of… Bianca. I miss her...” He breathed. Wills eyes softened, his grip on his lover’s hand tightening ever so slightly. “Im so sorry, Neeks.” “Its fine.” Nico replied quickly. Will sighed, taking a minute to search Nico’s eyes, looking out onto the water. “Anything you’re feeling specifically…?” Will asks softly. Nico shrugged and responded, “sadness? Regret… guilt…” Will’s eyebrows knit closer together. “Love, why do you feel guilty? It wasn’t your fault…” Nico’s eyes glistened. “Like my father said. It should’ve been me who died...” He whispered. There was a sad, long silence before anyone spoke. A tear rolled down Nico’s cheek and Will’s heart seized with sorrow. “Nico…” Will reaches out, wiping a tear from Nico’s cheek. He turned his head to Will. “It’s not your fault she… died,” Will says the as if word scared of Nico’s reaction, “Your dad had no reason to say that. She gave her life willingly. It was a brave act, Nico.” Nico tried looking away, but Will put a calloused hand to his jaw. “She wouldn’t want you to feel guilty…” Will added in a quiet voice. Nico’s lip quivered, tears threatening to fall. Will stroked his cheek, “can I hug you?” he asked softly, and Nico nodded. He hugged Nico, kissing his temple. “It’s okay, Bud.” Nico’s body shudders. He puts his head on Will’s shoulder, thin hands clutching Will’s arms. And somehow, some of the guilt was lifted from Nico’s shoulders.

I’m working on a plot, It is slightly a cliche trope, but I working on making it really different from the others, other than, of course what makes it the “magic school trope”.

I know cliche,

But,

I have a really good plot idea that is different from most. (It doesn’t have a pronounced antagonist, as in there isn’t a main “bad guy” ex: Voldemort. It’s more of obstacle[s] + a bunch of other things).

Now the question I have for yall is, what biological gender and/ or gender identity, should I make the protagonist?

I’m leaning towards female/girl and or a more feminine character, since there is more then twice as much male protagonists then females in books as a whole.

Also, whatever gender you choose I am going to either make them, or the side character gay :00 (whichever one I don’t chose to be gay is going to be straight, FYI)

I genuinely don’t know if that is important information for you decision

Also here are the school uniforms/inspo for the uniforms. (I have yet to draw the final design)

(“Boys”: slacks, that coat thing, and tucked flannel. “Girls”: plaid skirt, that sweater looking thing, the coat thing, and tights. “Other”:whatever that shirt thing is, tie, chino pants, and that coat thingy)

here I go again...

I have mixed opinions...

I have mostly positive feelings about Thorn. As far as I’ve seen, she’s good to the dragonets she raised, she’s very patient with them, she’s there for them, she’s an incredible queen, supportive of her daughter and Qibli, and overall, she’s probably one of the best parents out of the whole series so far, next to Secretkeeper.

I agree that maybe Thorn shouldn’t have killed him immediately, but honestly, I didn’t feel bad for him. He did lash out at her, and t audience was aware that he was going to rat out the main characters to a blood thirsty queen and he kidnapped Sunny. I also like to think she reacted out of instinct due to that and she regretted it afterwards. In a world fraught with war and suffering, where you need to be careful about members outside your territory and what their goals may be, it’s pretty understandable to react in instinct to someone when they attack you, especially if they’re outsiders galavanting around in YOUR territory.

I really enjoy Thorn as a character!! I like that she’s a good leader who used organized crime to do good for a society, and I like that she’s angry and curses and takes no **** at all. She’s fiercely loyal and quick on her feet and empathetic and she curses so much she could make a sailor blush

I think that Thorn told Cobra to give Qibli to her because she could tell that Cobra was an awful parent to him. I haven't read Darkness of Dragons in a while but iirc, she only suggested that after witnessing Cobra's cruel behavior toward Qibli.

When Qibli nearly killed everyone with a sandstorm, thorn merely gave him a slap on the wrist which was not enough imo. Furthermore, having an abused, traumatized dragonet be your advisor/right talon dragon within the scorpion den probably wasn’t the best decision in my eyes.

I wish she had gotten introduced in earlier books so she didn’t come out of nowhere. I haven’t read the first arc in a while, but I believe Thorn wasn’t mentioned til Book 5. I feel like having established her as a “ruthless” leader beforehand who takes no bull and kills to show her authority would have made for a nice plot twist in Book 5.

Imagine this: we see an epilogue of Thorn conversing with the Talons of Peace or something, and she finds out that Sunny is out running around. She orders her gang to begin looking and wants to kill someone that disagrees with her decision, but decides not to.

Then in Book 5 she’s shown to be a good leader who considers all options and did everything possible to get her daughter back. Eh, just spitballing without planning. I feel like Thorn really would’ve benefitted from having a small POV in the form of a prologue or an epilogue beforehand.
