MY LIFE STORY

My name is Lila, I’m nine years old, and everyone at school knows me as “the girl who’s obsessed with wolves.”
Honestly? They’re not wrong.

Ever since I was little, I felt kind of half-wolf inside — not in a scary way, more like in a brave, adventurous way. I like imagining I have pointy ears that twitch when I hear something exciting, and a fluffy tail that swishes when I’m happy.

My “fursona” (I learned that word online) is a silver wolf with white paws. I draw her in my notebooks a lot. Sometimes I think she’s who I’d be if I could choose.

Most kids don’t understand it, but it doesn’t bug me much.

The part that’s harder to explain is the part about liking girls.

It’s not romantic or anything — I’m nine. It’s just… when other kids talk about crushes, the boys never really make my heart do that whoosh thing. But there’s a girl in my class named June who totally does. She has curly hair, purple glasses, and she laughs so hard she snorts, which I think is adorable.

One day she saw me drawing my wolfsona during free time and said,
“That looks SO COOL. Is she magic?”

I told her yes — wolf-Lila can run super fast and howl songs that calm people down.
June said she wished she could be a bunny, because she’s small but fast.

And then she said the best thing ever:
“We could be a team. Like a wolf and a bunny going on adventures.”

I nearly exploded with happiness.

That was the day I realized there are people I don’t have to hide the real me from. People who don’t think I’m weird for loving animals or imagining I have a tail. People who don’t blink when I say I like girls.

Sometimes after school, we sit under the big oak tree and draw ourselves on adventures — me as a wolf, her as a bunny — fighting imaginary monsters or exploring sparkly forests.

We’re not grownups yet. We don’t have everything figured out.
But we know who we are, at least a little.

I’m Lila the Wolf.
I like girls.
I like adventures and art and pretending to run through forests.
And having someone like June around makes everything feel a little more magical.
