On a lot of therian posts, there's a ton of misconceptions. here are some that i will be debunking:

therianthropy is a choice: No, it is not a choice. it is a choice to make gear and do quads and vocals, yes, that is a choice. The identity itself is not a choice. This means you cannot ''quit'' being a therian or ''become'' a therian, nor can you choose your theriotype. Anyone who ''quits'' being a therian usually was faking or just realised they weren't actually a true therian. If someone tells you they ''chose'' to be a therian or chose their theriotype, they were likely misinformed or intentionally spreading misinfo and faking.

Therianthropy is a mental illness: No, it is not as it doesn't impact someone's daily functioning. Therians live a normal life like any other person. They are aware that they are not actually animals. If someone actually thinks that they are actually an animal, that is a serious delusion with a name called clinical lycanthropy. Not all therians wear vocals do quads or gear. A lot of them look like ''normal'' people without gear or not doing quads. the therian stereotype is not necessarily true. this also means we do not bark at or bite people in public. it's usually the haters barking at us to mock or harass us. Most therians can be very kind and they usually stick to their own business. Regarding shifts, phantom shifts don't exactly count as ''mental illnesses'' or hallucinations in a clinical sense as they are usually the by product of a very strong imagination. If you actually SEE the tail, or see any part of yourself as an animal, then yes, that does count as a hallucination and possibly a mental illness, but simply feeling the tail or ears is usually heightened sensations or a very strong imagination. Mental shifts are just a change in mindset, which is normal. During a mental shift, we usually will always retain our human sense of logic which means we won't bite or charge into someone for walking next to us when shifting, so, no, not anything related to mental illness.

Therianthropy is something that needs to be cured: Therianthropy doesn't need to be cured, as it doesn't cause distress or dysfunction and doesn't affect quality of life. It is a lifestyle and identity, not an illness or disease that needs to be treated and cured. Species dysphoria, however is different. It DOES count as a mental disorder as it causes severe distress and panic, so please treat anyone with it with RESPECT, and not just tell them that ''Oh, you're so dumb! You're a human, suck it up.'' I would rather be left alone than told that, personally, as this can worsen species dysphoria if we're met with disregard and hate.

Therians are disgusting and gross, and deserve to be hated on: Let me be very clear, NO ONE deserves to be hated on for wearing a mask and tail. We don't affect you in any way, we aren't going to bite or attack you. Going out of your way to hurt someone's feelings online just because ''you don't like them'' is awful. Also, therians are not the same as z00philes. These are truly disgusting people trying to associate themselves in an innocent community, causing that community to get hate for something that is just false.

Therians are posting about their clothes in the General animals/pets category, which is definitely wrong. So stop it pls. Just because you are a therian doesn't mean all your posts go into general animals category. Their is some stuff about quads which is a tiny bit better, but still not much, and not the right category.
