There's got to be a reason for this thing. "What are the odds that a shark just, randomly lets you ride its back all the way to shore after being injured on a reef? What predatory animal wouldn't smell the blood floating in the water and join in on the feeding frenzy?" I ranted to Natali the next morning. She sat there, staring into space.

"Well? Natali? What've you taken from this entire conversation this morning?" She retracted out of her daze like a glitch robotic arm. "Huh...sorry! I'm totally listening! I wasn't sleeping with my eyes open or anything!" I smiled.

"Nice save," "It's not that you're boring, Lia, it's just that your topics are getting boring. Don't-take that the wrong way." I rolled my eyes.

"Trust me, Nat. If it happened to YOU, then you would understand it." I replied reassuringly. She shook her head. "No, Lia...no I wouldn't..." She trailed off, closing the door behind her as she left.

"Uggghhhh!" I groaned. "I gotta get this thing figured out! I can't wait another minute!" I glued my eyes to the computer screen for the rest of that Saturday morning, not realizing that I'd been zoning out into my research again much like yesterday.

I grabbed a notepad from my desk and began jotting down some information from my research, like every good scientist does.

DO SHARKS NORMALLY SAVE PEOPLE? NO.
IS IT LIKELY THAT THEY WOULD? ALSO NO.

HOW MANY TIMES AM I GONNA MAKE A LIST OF RANDOM THINGS I ALREADY KNOW? THAT PART IS STILL UNDETECTED...

So, my research didn't really work out as I imagined, but let's put the idea of killing people through trees aside, and focus on the cold, hard, facts. Beep! Beep! My phone started ringing at the WORST time ever. I sighed as I shook my phone out of my pillowcase.

I had text messages from all this morning coming in from Natali after she left with her dramatic exit.

It is SO hard to decipher her messages. Honestly, I really doubt that this girl knows when to stop. But hey, I guess she's the best friend I'll ever have.

Zzzzzz.....Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Phone rings again, and this time in the middle of my nap. "Hello?" I asked, half asleep. "Hey, Lia..I just wanted to say I'm sorry about this morning. Wanna catch some waves?"

I sighed. "I mean, I guess I could use a break from my research," I replied. Moments later, we were trudging through the sand like we used to, before the shark thing speculated. "I'm glad you're finally trying to get this stuff out of your head," Natali said, as we ran into the water. "Me too," I replied, staring into the crystal waters before us.

My stomach grew tight, as I passed over a set with Natali, a familiar triangular shape surfaced above the water, which sent Natali screaming. I just sat there, frozen in shock.
