The Sister Part 2

Chapter 2: The Faraway Town

For the first time since her arrival at Saint Agnes Abbey, the sisters are allowed to leave the convent. They’re instructed to visit a nearby town, to purchase supplies and tend to the needs of the local community. Maci has always felt like an outsider here, but today, as she walks away from the stone walls, she feels an odd sense of freedom. The sunlight is warmer than it ever seems inside the abbey, and the air smells of fresh bread and the sharp tang of distant pine trees.

The town is small, nestled between rolling hills, its cobblestone streets winding in a way that makes it feel like time has forgotten it. Maci walks beside the other nuns, their habits a stark contrast to the everyday folk in their simple, colorful clothes. She keeps her head down, trying not to draw attention to herself, but she can’t help but feel drawn to the life outside the abbey.

As they make their way to the market, she spots him. A young man standing outside a shop, dressed in clothes that seem far too fine for a small town like this. His shirt is white, his vest a deep green, and his boots shine even in the dull afternoon light. His eyes meet hers, and for a moment, Maci feels something stir inside her—something she hasn’t felt in a long time.

Robby, as he introduces himself, is charming in a way she hadn’t expected. He speaks with an easy smile, his voice warm and smooth, almost like he’s known her for years. He asks if she’s new to the town, and Maci nods, unsure of how to respond.

“I don’t see many like you around here,” he says, his gaze lingering on her habit. “Are you lost, or are you just hiding away from the world?”

Maci laughs nervously, feeling both seen and invisible all at once. “I’m not lost,” she says. “Just... passing through.”

They talk for a little while longer, and Maci finds herself smiling more than she has in months. She doesn’t feel like a nun, or like someone trapped in a life of prayer. She feels like herself, a girl who has the possibility of something more.

As they talk, however, a strange unease settles in the pit of her stomach. The shadows beneath the shop awning seem to shift, and for a moment, Maci swears she sees the silhouette of someone standing just inside the darkened doorway. The figure is tall, impossibly tall, and it’s wearing a habit—like the ones the nuns wear, only darker, the edges tattered and ragged, the hood obscuring its face.

She blinks, and the figure is gone.

“Maci?” Robby’s voice snaps her back to the present. “Is something wrong?”

She shakes her head quickly, forcing a smile. “No, I’m fine.”

But even as she says it, she feels the weight of the eyes on her. The feeling of being watched. She looks over her shoulder once more, but the street is calm, the sunlight warm and unthreatening. There’s no figure, no shadow, nothing that shouldn’t be there. Just the hustle and bustle of the town.

The rest of the afternoon passes in a blur of conversation, though Maci can’t shake the feeling that she’s being pulled in two directions—toward Robby, whose presence makes her feel alive in a way she hasn’t felt in so long, and toward something else. Something lurking in the corners of her mind, something dark.

As the sun sets, the nuns begin to gather their things, preparing to head back to the abbey. Robby gives Maci a final, lingering look, and she finds herself wishing they had more time. But the convent calls, and she must return.

As they walk back toward the gate, a familiar chill wraps around her. It’s that same feeling—the feeling that she’s not alone.

And then she sees it again.

In the distance, standing at the edge of the market, a figure cloaked in shadow. Taller than any man, its habit fluttering in the wind as if it’s alive. The dark, ragged shape of the Evil Nun.

But when Maci looks away and turns back, the figure is gone.

She stumbles, almost tripping on the cobblestone path, her heart racing. “Sister Agnes,” she whispers, but the older nun doesn’t seem to notice her distress. No one seems to notice.

“Are you alright, Sister Maci?” Sister Agnes asks, her voice as soft as ever, her face unreadable.

Maci doesn’t know what to say. She wants to scream, to tell them all, but the words won’t come.

Instead, she nods, the feeling of being watched never leaving her.

Babyhood Days (Chapter 2)

Chapter 2.

Babyhood Days

His mother Amena fed him her milk first. After two, three days Thuwayba, Abu Lahab’s maid, fed him her milk. In those days the rich and the noble used to send

their newborn babies to nearby villages to be raised among the bedouin so that the children could acquire eloquence in the Arabic language and learn the traditional

Arab values from them. A few days after the birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), some women from the Hawazin tribe came to Makkah in search of such babies.

S’adiya Haleema was among them. By chance she couldnot get any such child to rear. The mother of the Prophet (pbuh) wanted her to take the Prophet (pbuh) and raise him under her care in her village. S’adiya Haleema, however, was not much interested at the beginning, as she did not expect any lucrative reward for taking care of an orphan. But at the same time she did not want to return without a child. So, ultimately, she accepted the request of Hazrat Amena and took Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) with her. After two years she brought him back to Makkah to his mother. But as in those days an epidemic had spread in Makkah, Hazrat Amena asked her to keep the baby (pbuh) with her for some more time. Haleema did accordingly.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) loved S’adiya Haleema very much. When he was entrusted with prophethood, her husband Harith bin ‘Abdul ‘Uzzah visited him in Makkah and inquired him about his message. The Prophet (pbuh) told him that the day would come soon when he wouldshow him that he told the truth. Harith accepted Islam.

(Muhammad - The Last Prophet, 18-19)
