Paisley Chevreaun CH5

The car ride took FOREVER! It was unbelievable. I though we were moving into a bigger house, not a bigger state! "Mom, when are we going to get there?" I hesitated. "Mom?" The only response I got was a snore.

"She's sleeping, honey. And we're almost there. Few more miles to go," said my dad. I rolled my eyes. Anabelle's phone died, so now she's reading some brailled book. The title's brailled, too, so I don't know what it's called.

We're rolling up into a HUGE neighborhood now. It's got mantions. But not to mention the spiral staircases, horse carriages, and palaces in the distance. It was really pretty.

Wait, what was I talking about again? I went from describing the neighborhood we passed through to describing what was happening in the Cinderella movie on my tablet. I'm very tired. Maybe I should take a nap....

It's eight-thirty now. We just got into the new house, and now we're picking out the bedrooms we want. I chose one on the top floor, so that I can walk down 2 flights of stairs every morning to wake me up better.

I know I'll regret it later, but it's kind of hard to think about anything like this right now, because I'm exhausted. We all are. I would write more in this diary, but there's been literally NOTHING else other than riding in the car for hours on end. This paragraph is getting too long and I'm falling asleep right now so BYE!!

Chapter Four: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/13406/paisley-chevreaun-ch4?show=13406#q13406

Paisley Chevreaun ch4

How could I have been so stupid? I thought, as I attempted to finish up my packing. My mom said that Anabel's dad only has a college degree in whatever job he was doing.

Which meant, that until he finds what else he's passionate about doing, we had to move into a bigger house where me and Anabel didn't have to share a room and where we had more space for my aunt and parents as well. "Paisley? How is packing coming in there? Because we have to be out of here soon, honey. Your grandparents have been kind enough to let us stay there for awhile until we find a place that we can manage with," my mom called.

I stepped outside of my bedroom and leaned against the door. "So, we have to move from a small space, to an even SMALLER space, to be able to afford a DECENT space?!" I asked, kind of shouting. "Well, when you put it that way, then...yes! By the way; please try not to shout..inside voice, k..fdfgcrbjgrg," My head cocked to the side. "Is something wrong, Paisley?" mom asked, worriedly. "N--no I just thought I heard you wrong that's all.."

"Okay? Well just finish packing, kay? You're dad's coming home from work soon to help you pack up the rest of your things," I nodded and went back into my room. "Well..I guess this is it," I sighed, looking around my room for the last time .

Later that day, my dad came into my room to help pack. "So you're seriously ready for this?" my dad asked, boxing some of my gymnastics trophies. "Yeah; no I think it's just something we just have to do, you know..f---for family...so.." He raised his eyebrows in disbelief.

"I don't believe you. You grew up here, it's okay to feel strange about leaving, you know?" I nodded. "I think I'm ready, though..I mean between school, gymnastics meets, and weekly doctor visits, this is a little more pressure, but I'll be fine!" He smiled. "Good. Glad to see you're looking at this positively. Oh; by the way, you have your weekly checkup tomorrow!" I gave the thumbs up. "Thanks, dad. I'll grab the air mattress. I need some rest so that I'll be ready for this doctor's appointment! It makes the hearing exercises THAT much worse if you're already half asleep."

I laughed, but soon my smile faded as my father left the room. Wait a minute! I thought to myself, sitting on the chair in the corner of my bedroom. Maybe I can ask the nurse if she has any idea what's going on with my hearing today! I took off my left turquoise hearing aid and turned up the volume a bit. "Well, I'd better finish packing..."

TO BE CONTINUED! :D

Chapter Three: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/13125/paisley-chevreaun-ch3?show=13125#q13125

Paisley Chevreaun ch3

DING DONG! The doorbell went. I was too excited to even breathe. So,
last time I wrote in this journal, my blind cousin Anabel was moving in
with us after her father became unemployed.

So that ought to be my cuz coming through the door with my aunt and
uncle. They used to live a little farther away, so they didn't really
come over to our neighborhood much unless we had a family reunion or
holiday. And by farther away I mean like Canada.

So you can see why my family gets excited to see them. Mom told me
to make sure that I showed I respected their sircumstances, because even
though I'M excited that we get to see more of them, THEY'RE only looking
at it as misfortune. It's one of the things my parents say that they
love about me, that I always stay on the positive side of things.

But I mean, who wouldn't wanna go that way? Ya know..at the end of
the day why do you gotta be the Grumpy Dwarf? And yes, lots of people
find it hard to believe that I don't seem the slightest bit sad about my
disability, or even acknowledge it in a general conversation, and I just
tell them that it's just a part of me.

It's like somebody mentioning that they have brown hair in every
conversation that they're in. It's completely off topic, and gets
annoying. Embracing yourself has always been a big part of my life,
because yah, disability DOES run in my family, but that doesn't mean
that I have to listen to these girls at school who have nothing better
to do than tease me. I'd better go and get her half of the room ready
before she comes in!

So me and Anabel aren't exactly hitting it off as well as I'd
initially hoped. Because first of all; there's a SMIDGE of a language
barrier...Anabel and her family come from Canada, so she speaks French.
Her parents said that she speaks English decently, but she hasn't even
said one word to me yet. More on this tomorrow! Hopefully we can get
back on the right foot after some time....
;)
TO BE CONTINUED

Chapter Two: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/11823/paisley-chevreaun-ch2?show=11823#q11823

PAISLEY CHEVREAUN CH2

Ugh. I'm glad I'm transitioning into homeschooling next year. These girls think they're so pretty, but in reality, they're uglier than a troll on the inside.

I don't feel like I have to impress people to gain friends or a social popularity. because all of those things are meaningless after high school. I took off my turquoise hearing aids.

To tell you the truth, I love them. I mean, it's not really that bad, once you get past all those obnoxious middle school girls calling you an old granny because of impaired hearing. They probably have kinder souls anyway.

Sorry I haven't written in my diary much lately! it's been pretty hectic lately. What, with like my cousin Annabelle coming to stay with us, after her father lost his job. I love them so much.

Being deaf doesn't mean you can't be happy. That's why my favorite colour is yellow. Stay tuned for next chapter though, where I give you some more inside info on my family life!!

My cousin Annabelle is blind so we are a team effort. they're moving in and I'm kinda busy so more on this tomorrow!! Bye!!

   TO BE CONTINUED!! :)

Chapter One: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/11437/paisley-chevreaun-ch1?show=11437#q11437

PAISLEY CHEVREAUN CH1

At the doctor's office, the nurse was endlessly talking about who knows what--no, literally, I had no idea what they were talking about. The doctor was running some hearing test on me this morning, and she had already taken my turquoise hearing aids to the counter with her.

The struggles of life haven't been incredibly horrible so far, as I've mentioned to my mother countlessly when she asks. Obnoxious fifth graders last year trying to trip me right under my nose flashed before my eyes in a vision. It's funny; I've always had trouble hearing, not seeing.

And every single time I'd tried to explain that to them, I read their lips muttering to girls around them talking about the language of hand dancing; I assumed they were referring to my first language--American Sign Language. What has always bothered me with constantly transferring back and forth from regular public schools to schools for the disabled, or as I like to call them, "Schools for the Unique Individuals out there,".

My parents and fellow students have always bugged me about what's it's like, and to be fair, it's never been hard to understand anybody because I've taught my friends my language. (Let's get real, though; not that I've really ever had that many..)

When the nurse and my moms' lips ceased to move, the examinations began. She led me to a room where I could see a fat machine and a chair. Here we go with the earphone things again! She pressed buttons and flipped switches, and I sat there, squinting, waiting for something to happen...; and whadaya know?

It didn't. Does it ever? I wondered. My mom asked if I heard anything, and I replied with a simple, "no," by balling my fist into a mute button, swishing it back and forth like a shark's tail. Next, for some reason I had to write my name on the paper. Picking up my pencil in my left hand, I wrote: PAISLEY in all caps.

I made sure to sign to the nurse however that I did not have some ridiculous disability that disables me from writing in lowercase, as I have been inferred about on my previous visit. I blew on an amber-blond bang hanging in my face out of perpetual boredom. I lip read the nurse asking my mother a question.

"Yes I can speak I just don't very often," I replied. The lady wrote down, "DICTATION TONE AND PACE: QUIET AND RAPID." on a clipboard. I felt so embarrassed just then! I guess I should probably practice a bit more.

I just have always felt that there's no need for me to speak if I initially have no idea what I'm saying or if I'm doing it right. Shortly after we got home, my mom explained that my hearing results came back null and if I was willing, I could take a cochlear implant. Or, there was one other option: I COULD CHOOSE TO REMAIN DEAF FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.

TO BE CONTINUED!!
