You heard that right cat_cat, this is a UBER long chapter. In fact, it's so uberly long that I'm going to have at least 2 to 3 answers containing the rest of this chapter. So you better read this, or the Uber driver won't come

(By the way, this chapter was the reason I kinda went inactive again after I made that post saying I was back )

Chapter 21- Korimeke and Sachu Day

Things really were going downhill after Rugigohno had told Sachu about the situation. Rugigohno didn’t know how to mend the problem, so the best she could do was go to Korimeke.

“Do you think he can come over for today? You know, so he can take his mind off things? He didn’t handle what I told him too well.”

“Well what did you tell him?”

“I-” Rugigohno looked behind her, just to find Sachu standing there.

“Hold on.”

“Sachu? You okay?”

“...you said that you were my family. You said that I wouldn’t be alone. Yet—you want me to leave!” He ran off into his room, pouting.

Rugigohno heavily sighed.

“Sorry Korimeke, Sachu’s still sore about it.”

“No problem. Could you tell me what you told him though?”

“I-Okay.”

“Well, I can see how that might hurt Sachu.” Korimeke remarked.

“I know, I feel terrible about it. But—because I don’t think he wants to be around me right now, I think it would be good for him to hang out with you today. That way, he can also warm up to you more. I mean, he already has, but I want him to know you more. You’re a fun person.”

“Aw, thanks! You’re a fun person too, Rugi.” She cheered.

“So—can you take him for today?”

“Yup!”

“Okay. Good.”

Before Korimeke could even say goodbye, Rugigohno hung up.

Rugigohno put the phone back, and walked over to the table.

“Sachu, come over here.”

She could hear the grunting and scoffing coming from Sachu’s room, as he frustratedly swung the door open.

“What?” He mumbled.

“I know you’re mad at me right now, so me and Korimeke thought that you should stay with her for a little bit today, and hang out with her and stuff. If you really can’t stand me right now, then you’d definitely want to go. I mean, why would you want to be stuck here with grumpy, no fun, old me? Ya wouldn't, right? So get ready, and Korimeke will take you. But—wait. Just remember to wear something that the nes hasn’t reported you in, so you know—you can stay safe. Please?”

Sachu secretly wanted to apologize, but he walked off, muttering ‘whatever’.

By the time Sachu was ready, Rugigohno was already leaning against the door frame, gesturing to him that he put his shoes on, and wait for Korimeke to come.

“Here. I got this hat.”

Sachu scoffed.

“I don’t want to wear it.”

“Do you want to get caught?”

He rolled his eyes, and walked to the table. Sachu sat there, slumped in the chair and sighed. Rugigohno couldn’t help but laugh to herself about the fact that Sachu was evidently sighing for attention. Soon, a sound of footsteps came from outside the door. They got louder within each step, until a startling knock came after.

That must be Korimeke.

Rugigohno opened the door, and as expected, Korimeke walked in.

“Goodmorning!” She cheered.

“It’s a little after morning, but thanks anyway. Sachu’s ready, so you can start heading out if you want.” Rugigohno glanced at Sachu, who was resting his head on his arm on the table.

“Come on, Sachu.”

Sachu had zoned out during the time Rugigohno waited for Korimeke, and he had now snapped out of it.

“Hi, Sachu!!” Korimeke smiled, all of her teeth showing, which was more so creepy than inviting. Sachu was still cranky though, so he groaned, and slithered his way to Korimeke.

“I see you’re a little upset right now, but I can change that.” She held out her hand, which Sachu hesitantly took.

As both Korimeke and Sachu walked out of the house, Sachu looked behind him, looking wistfully at Rugigohno. She didn’t notice him looking at her though.

“So ... .Whatcha wanna do when we reach my house?” Korimeke asked, breaking the silence, which made Sachu jump.

“You okay there?”

Sachu just nodded, but instead of keeping it that way, he decided to respond a little after.

“I-It was quiet, so when you said that, it scared me.”

Korimeke chuckled, covering her mouth.

“Hah–I get it, I sometimes get startled. But don’t worry.”

Sachu was a little confused why Korimeke added the ‘but don’t worry.’ at the end, even though there really was nothing to worry about. He didn’t mention it to her though.

“Uhm… Ms. Korimeke?” He asked, softening his tone.

“Yes.” Korimeke responded, looking brightly into Sachu’s eyes.

“How far away is your house?”

Korimeke giggled.

“You’ll just have to see for yourself, Sachu!”

Soon enough, they reached Korimeke’s house, which wasn’t actually a house, but an apartment. The jangling of keys filled Sachu’s ears, as Korimeke struggled to unlock the door. She grunted as she turned the knob, then looked behind her, smiling

“Ah—got it. Come on in, Sachu.” She took off her shoes in the front, which Sachu did as well.

“We can stay here for a little bit or we can go somewhere if you want. I just kinda wanted to show you where I live, so you know—you can just get a little—familiar. Welp, something like that. You know?”

Sachu hadn’t heard a single word Korimeke had said, but he went on with it and nodded.

Over at the card match where Rugigohno was, Ukime called again.

How many darn phone calls am I going to get?! She whined to herself.

“Yes?” She exhaustedly said.

“Yeah, uhh—Rugigohno, did-”

“If this is about me telling Sachu, the damage has unfortunately been done.”

Ukime left Rugigohno on the phone with no response for a few minutes, but out of the blue, he responded with an ‘ok.’

“Well, now that that’s out of the way, I need to talk to you about something else.”

Rugigohno wasn’t really in the mood to go deeper into the Sachu leaving topic, but there really was no choice. It was way more serious than she took it, and Ukime was simply reminding her. Especially for someone who cared about Sachu the most, Rugigohno really didn’t know how to handle the situation.

“I’m guessing you haven’t found out what to do or where to put Sachu, huh?” Rugigohno scrunched her eyes.

“No.” She subtly responded.

“If I’m going to be honest, I really haven’t thought about what to do either, so I guess that's what this phone call is for, isn’t it?” Ukime seemed to chuckle after he said this, but Rugigohno stayed quiet.

“R-Rugigohno? You there?”

“Yes. I’m listening.”

“Anyways, one thing I’m definit on is the fact that—well… you promise you won’t snap at me?”

Rugigohno could feel Ukime squinting anxiously as he uttered these words, even though she couldn’t see him. Although this just proved how much she knew Ukime.

“Uhm, nope. Can’t promise that.” She snickered. Ukime sighed, continuing on with what he was going to say.

“Should’ve expected that…. Welp, I was just thinkin’—because you know—the police are on his tail and everything…-”

“Just go on with it.” Rugigohno interrupted.

“C-because he isn’t necessarily safe here, I just had a thought—well… maybe he move countries?” He knew how Rugigohno would respond, but it might’ve been something that would actually have to happen…

Rugigohno paused, taking in what Ukime had said. Obviously, she was mad, and thought it was a crazy idea, but instead of critiquing it immediately, she took a moment to fully absorb his idea. A sigh came from Rugigohno on the other end, but it was a mix of a chuckle, and a sigh.

“That sounds absolutely ridiculous. Why can’t he just move towns maybe? Moving countries is a whole different thing, and I think that’s pushing the limit.”

“First of all, you don’t know what could happen—the police might search ALL of Japan, including this part and any others that you might want him to go to. It might not be the case, but if you want him safe, that might be an option. Plus, you haven’t even heard his opinion. Even if he’s mad at you for the fact that he has to leave, he might—you know, see it through a different lens. Just imagine, getting to see a whole different country at the age of 8. He is 8… right?”

“Yes, but that’s not the point.” Rugigohno began.

“All this, ‘the police might search all of Japan’ is dumb, it’s not like Sachu did anything bad, why would they go out of their way going through every inch of Japan just to find him? That’s a bit of a stretch, don’t ya think? Plus, I know how Sachu would react to going to a different country. He was definitely mad when I told him, and I’ll probably make it worse for him telling him he has to move flippin’ countries!” She yelped.

“I-I know, but please consider it. Until some other idea takes its place, that’s what one of the possible plans might be.”

Rugigohno deeply wanted to find a different way, but at that moment, she couldn’t think of anything.

“So… have you made up your mind?” Korimeke asked, laying on the couch. Sachu, who was sitting on his knees near a coffee table, shrugged, and continued to zone out.

“Are you hungry?”

“No.”

“Do you want to… I don’t know, shop? Or is that too girly?”

“No.”

“You gotta be open, Sachu. Can’t say no to everything,” She chuckled.

“And—if you don’t want to eat or shop, what do you want to do?”

Sachu still shrugged, fiddling with his yukata. Korimeke thought of saying something, but the moment she was about to, she completely forgot what she was going to say. It had become completely awkward now, and both of them weren’t talking to each other. Rugigohno’s idea of Korimeke and Sachu hanging out wasn’t turning out how she had envisioned…

“Even if moving to a different country was a good idea, what about the language barrier? I’m not sure if Sachu would be able to pick up on the language, but you’d agree it’d be challenging for him… And sometimes, he’ll give up on himself because he finds it too hard.” Rugigohno explained, tapping the bottom of the phone with her nails.

“He’ll eventually adjust, Rugigohno. Just please.”

Rugigohno took a long lasting sigh.

“I’ve trusted you at times I probably shouldn’t’ve…”

“Ms. Korimeke?” Sachu asked, in quite a high voice.

“Yeah?”

“I’m sorry..” His expression changed. It wasn’t sad though, it was just—blank. Although, his expression before was sort of the same. Weird.

“Why are you apologizing? You didn’t do anything…”

Sachu shrugged for the fourth time.

“I don’t know.”

Korimeke facepalmed, chuckling as she did so.

“Rugigohno’s so lucky to have you.” She fixed her face with a warm smile, sitting down next to him. Although Sachu didn’t like rotting around in the apartment, he wasn’t sure what to occupy himself with. Korimeke exhaled, her hair whooshing around in the subtle wind of the room.

“How about this,” She jumped up.

“Whether you don’t want to or not, we should take a walk out and you know—just be outside. You’ll eventually get hungry too, so it’ll just—work out on its own. I’m sure. Come on.” Korimeke got up from the couch, grunting, and grabbed Sachu’s hand.

Chapter 20- Telling Sachu

Sachu wasn’t exactly happy, but he wasn’t in shambles either. It was just bothering Rugigohno about the fact that he’d have to leave her soon. Not only that, but how would she tell her? She wouldn’t want to be hard on him, but the topic itself was just too harsh to be changed into a friendlier one. Not only that, but saying it out of the blue would probably make matters worse. Ukime was right. Serious moments need to be taken seriously.

“Sachu?” Rugigohno asked, poking her food with her chopsticks.

“Yeah?” He looked up at her, his mouth full of scrambled eggs.

Rugigohno looked away, contemplating whether she should tell him or not.

“Nothing…” She muttered.

“You were gonna tell me something! Don’t say nothing, tell me!” He pleaded.

Rugigohno wouldn’t budge though, and continued to ignore Sachu.

“Please, Ms. Rugigohno? I’ll be happy if you tell me!”

“You won’t.” She sharply responded.

Rugigohno left the room, and went into the bathroom. She sat near the toilet, and began to sob.

“M-Ms. Rugigohno? Are you okay?” He quietly turned the knob, walking into the bathroom where Rugigohno was slumped on the floor.

“Why are you crying?” Sachu knelt down to where she was.

“I’m just worried…Sach’....That’s….all….” She wiped her face with her hand, then smiled at Sachu.

“I’m sorry for all of this, Sachu. I really am. Ah, I’m a mess, I should get cleaned up. How about you watch tv, and I’ll be out soon. But—hey, I’m okay.”

Sachu frowned.

“You sure?”

“Yes.” Although deep inside, Rugigohno wasn’t.

The day wasn’t going too well, and Rugigohno was just rotting on the couch. All of a sudden though, the phone rang.

“I’ll get i-”

“No, I’ll get it.”

Rugigohno softly pushed Sachu out of the way, and ambled her way to the phone.

“Yes?”

“It’s Ukime. H-have you told him yet?”

Rugigohno scoffed, which Ukime heard on the other side of the phone.

“Not yet. I just don’t want to make him feel bad.”

“I know, but it’ll be even worse when it’s too late. Please. Just—work it into the conversation.”

Rugigohno rolled her eyes, even though Ukime couldn’t see it.

“And how exactly am I supposed to do that?” She barked. Because she said it so aggressively, Sachu began to eavesdrop. Although, Rugigohno was speaking fairly loud the whole phone call, so it wouldn’t be much time before Sachu started to pick up on what she was saying.

“Supposed to do what?”

Rugigohno looked over her shoulder.

“Nothing, Sachu. This isn’t any of your business, so please just focus on the tv.”

“But it is his business,” Ukime intervened.

“TELL ME!!” Sachu raised his voice. Once he realized what he did, he covered his face in shame.

“I-I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to do that…” He scrunched his hair, cowering in fear.

And at this moment, Rugigohno broke. She just stood there, holding the phone in one hand and in the other, nothing. Her eyes focused on the walls, even though there wasn’t anything interesting about them. She couldn’t bear to look at Sachu right now.

“Hello? Rugigohno? You there? Hello…?” Ukime came from the phone. Rugigohno didn’t respond though. In fact, the only thing talking was him, while Rugigohno stood there silent and Sachu bent down covering his face.

“Rugigohno, please answer me. Rugigohno?” Ukime took a sigh before ending the call, now leaving the whole room silent. Rugigohno rubbed her face, and put the phone back. She walked toward Sachu, and bent down.

“Sit up. I’m telling you.”

Sachu wiped off the faint tears he had on his cheeks, and sat criss crossed on the floor.

“So… Me and Ukime were talking about something very serious yesterday, and he was telling me that I should tell you today, but it’s very stressful because I’m worried—about you.”

“W-why?”

“T-there was a news report about—your p- “parents” begging to have you back, and well—the police are onto you now. And it might not be safe for you to be here…”

“...why..?” Sachu asked, very quietly.

“I know you don’t want to leave, and BELIEVE me, I don’t want you to leave either. But if you stay here—it’ll just make matters worse. But—hey. Look at me,” Rugigohno grabbed Sachu’s face.

“You’re not leaving today. Or tomorrow. Or this week. Hopefully, you’ll get to stay here long enough with me, so we can celebrate your birthday. I haven’t thought about the day you’ll have to leave, but if—and maybe when, we encounter trouble, I can think of something. But I promise you you’re not leaving so soon. Okay?”

Sachu didn’t respond.

“Sachu, look at me.”

“Where would I go”

“What?”

“WHERE WOULD I GO? ARE YOU SENDING ME BACK TO THOSE PEOPLE?!” He stormed off, stomping into a room and slamming the door behind him.

“What have I done…” Rugigohno facepalmed, contemplating her decision.

Chapter 15- Meeting Ukime and Wayorada

Sachu was still filled with joy about his success, even though both him and Rugigohno occupied themselves with something else now.

“Come over here, Sach’! There’s a show on here I think you’ll like!”

A second after Rugigohno said this, Sachu scrambled over to where the tv was.

“What is it?” He generally seemed curious. It was cute.

“Look. It’s called Voltron. In the show, 5 characters form together to make a giant robot, called Voltron. Super cool, right? They even battle this evil guy named King Zarkon. You’ll definitely get into this, Sach’.” Rugigohno looked and sounded so— happy. Sachu smiled.

“I don’t know anything about this show, but I think I already love it.”

“In about 10 minutes Sachu, the real game will begin. Lots and lots of people will come in, so when I sit over there on that chair, stand near me, okay?” She ordered.

“How many people will come?” asked Sachu. Rugigohno took a minute to respond.

“I’m not sure…” She began. “But it’s a handful of people, so like I said, stay close to me.”

Sachu gestured a thumbs up, while still glued to the tv. Rugigohno’s assumptions were true. Sachu loved Voltron.

Once it hit 6:30, tons of people were pouring in.

Does Rugigohno know all these strangers? All so many— why so many…

Most of the faces Sachu looked at were ones he never saw before— until someone familiar made an appearance.

“Ms. Rugigohno, you didn’t tell me Ms. Korimeke was coming.” Once Sachu finished his statement, he smiled.

“I might’ve told you, but both you and me forgot. Hah, that sounds weird, but I truly can’t recall telling you that Korimeke would come. Then again, I think I did. Hm. Weird.”

“Sachu! Rugi!” Korimeke cheered as she opened her arms wide, gesturing a hug from the two. Rugigohno stayed in her chair though—

except Sachu, who walked over to Korimeke, taking that hug she was gesturing for.

“Ukime and Wayorada aren’t here yet, Rugi?” Korimeke asked, still hugging Sachu. What was funny was the fact that Sachu was so very short, that he was only able to hug Korimeke’s leg.

“You’re so tall!!” Sachu said in awe. This made Korimeke chuckle, while she picked him up.

“How’s it going with you and Rugi, Sachu?”

“Good. We played the game earlier today,” He cheerily responded.

“Ohh really? What was ‘the game’?”

“Poker, silly!!”

Sachu tended to shift his tones at times. Sometimes he would use very advanced vocabulary, and other times, he would talk very childishly. Of course, he was a child, but he somehow had the vocabulary of the average adult. Such a special child Sachu was.

By the time it hit 7:00 pm, the whole card match was crowded. Still no sign of Ukime and Wayorada though.

“Where are they?” Rugigohno said skittishly. Both her, and the rest of the people at the card match were getting impatient. Korimeke put Sachu down, walking towards Rugigohno.

“Rugi, do you know where Ukime and Wayorada are?” She said, bending over Rugigohno’s shoulder. Not only were Ukime and Wayorada late, but so was Rugigohno’s opponent.

“By the looks of it, this game outta be cancelled…” Rugigohno muttered. Just then, two people walked in, stealing everyone’s attention.

“WHERE WERE YOU?!” Rugigohno screeched at the top of her lungs.

The whole crowd stood silent, watching awkwardly after Rugigohno had shouted.

“Welp, we’re here now, okay? No need to get all crazy.” Ukime chuckled. Rugigohno sent a piercing glare to Ukime, while Wayorada stayed quiet, almost hiding behind him.

“Who’s this little twerp?” Ukime observed, Sachu reluctant to talk to him, while Rugigohno continued to glare at Ukime.

“At least you’re here….” Rugigohno finally said, going over to the table where the cards were stacked neatly. The door squeaked open, everyone looking towards its direction.

“Is that the opponent?” somebody said from the crowd. Lots and lots of people were chattering and babbling about who knows what, but once that certain individual uttered their words, the room was awkwardly silent.

“I’m here to play.” The stranger said, walking towards Rugigohno.

“Alright then, the game shall commence.” Rugigohno announced, taking 7 cards from the deck.

“Shall I start the game, or you?” She added, still shuffling through the cards she took.

“You can start,” Came the opponent.

“Okay then…” Rugigohno remarked, but it was so quiet nobody could hear what she said clearly.

Now the game has officially started.

A King of hearts was what Rugigohno put down. It wasn’t as high as the ace card, but it was still greater in value than a handful of cards. While the opponent was looking for a card to put down, Rugigohno interrupted the silence.

“If ya don’t mind me askin’......” She began,

“What’s your name?”

The opponent’s face was still down, but their eyes fixed on Rugigohno.

“...Botan. But I don’t go by that name.”

….?

“Then what do you go by?”

“Tim. Don’t ask, just Tim.” It wasn’t otherworldly or anything like that, but Rugigohno didn’t quite understand the appeal of changing a perfectly fine birth name to an American name. Where she lived, it was quite common. But maybe the opponent was half American—like Sachu.

“Okay, Tim. Are you done finding a card to put down?”

Tim nodded. He put down a king card, the same as Rugigohno’s.

“I see. Do you know what to do now that we’ve put down the same cards?” She asked.

“Hmm…. No. Enlighten me with your poker knowledge. I want to get better at this game.”

While Tim and Rugigohno were at the game, Ukime ambled his way to Sachu.

“Rugigohno hasn’t told me about you. Who are you, little boy?” The words that came out of Ukime’s mouth startled Sachu. He wasn’t paying attention to anything that was happening—in fact, he seemed to have zoned out.

“W-Huh?” Sachu let out, acknowledging Ukime’s presence.

“Did you hear me, little boy?” Ukime said again. Judging by the way the teenage boy was talking with Sachu, he seemed annoyed with him.

“I-I’m sorry…” Sachu anxiously uttered.

“Sorry for what?”

“I don’t know…”

“You sure are weird, little boy.”

“First of all, why does Rugigohno have you with her?”

“I guess you haven’t seen Kanazawa news,” Korimeke chimed in.

“He’d been living on his own in a shed, until Rugi found him.”

“Yeah…. But you left out a few parts.” Sachu abruptly added, as he was now warming up to Ukime. Wayorada had gone to the other side of the card match, though, so he wasn’t able to see or talk to her.

“Then why don’t you fill in those gaps, little boy?”

“Why are you calling me little boy?” He said, completely ignoring what Ukime had requested.

“Uhh… I don’t know, maybe because…uhhh….. you are a little boy?”

“My name is Sachu, not little boy.” Sachu pouted.

“Alright then, Sachu. Now that I know your name, can we revisit what I asked you to do a few minutes ago?”

“What was the question?”

Ukime sighed heavily, slapping his forehead in disappointment.

“You got some nerve, kid.”

It was now coming towards the end of the game, 3 rounds completed, Rugigohno having taken 6 total cards from Tim, and Tim taken 3.

“You need to pull yourself together, Tim. Isn’t lookin’ too good for ya.” Rugigohno smirked, which irritated Tim.
“How do I win in a situation like this?” Tim muttered. He seemed—worried.

It might have been a 3 card gap between Rugigohno and Tim, but when comparing the number 6 and 3 in general, it seemed like way more of a distance. Tim couldn’t find any strategy to pick himself up;his mind was blank. While Tim was lost in his thoughts, Rugigohno reviewed both her cards she took from Tim and the ones she started off with in the game. Club 6, Queen of Hearts, and… is that…. A spade 7? Rugigohno absolutely treasured the spade 7 card. She claimed that 7 was her lucky number, so she was always delighted when she came across the card.

Chapter 13- Second Day

First thing in the morning Sachu woke up to was the smell of something savory being fried.

What is that?

His feet hit the cold ground, making a slight thumping noise as it happened.

“Ms. Rugigohno…! What is that smell?” As Sachu walked out of his room into the other, the smell got stronger. It didn’t just smell fry-like, but now greasy.

“Good morning, Sachu. That smell you’re smelling is breakfast. In fact, sit down. It’s almost done.”

It often made Sachu question how he went from living alone and dirty in a shed, to having meals made for him in the mornings. He wasn’t complaining, he was just astonished.

“May I ask what it is?” He played with his chopsticks on the table, poking his finger with the tip.

“Korrokes. They’re these little fried potato thingies. It’s really good, and I think you’ll

like it.” Rugigohno used her tongs to carefully grab the fried food, and place it onto Sachu’s plate.

“Well…. Go on—

Try it.”

Eating food wasn’t just eating, but for Sachu, it was an experience. And Rugigohno was quite right when she stated that Sachu would like it.

Rather than picking the Korokke with the chopsticks, Sachu grabbed it with his hands. It coated each of his fingers with grease, and crumbs from the panko.

“I’ll try it now.” He remarked, finally taking his first bite. It wasn’t as extraordinary as when he tried the convenience store sandwich. It still was quite satisfying to bite into though. A distinct crunch sounded after Sachu took another bite. Both grease, potato, and crumbs all swished around in his mouth. The combination was delicious.

“These are really good, Ms. Rugigohno. I’ve never tried them before, but they’re so tasty!!” He smiled, his mouth still filled with food. Rugigohno didn’t mind though. She was just happy that Sachu was happy.

“Alright Sachu, wash up. We’ve got a few things ahead of us today.” Rugigohno announced, walking into the bathroom. Sachu followed her.

“You get in the shower first because you’re smaller. It’ll take you a shorter time to get finished, so then after that, I can get in. Come on,” She nudged him towards the shower.

“U-uhm… Ms. Rugigohno…? This is different from the bathhouse I went to… How do I use this one?”

Rugigohno sighed quietly, taking back the shower curtain covering the bath.

“This knob makes the water cold, and this one makes it hot. You turn the left knob a little towards the right, which’ll make the water turn off.” Her instructions were rather quick, but Sachu would pick up on it quite fine.

“Ok. Thank you, Ms. Rugigohno.”

“Alright Sachu, get in. Make sure to take a quick shower too, okay?”

Sachu nodded, his hand grasping the moist shower curtain tightly.

With the additional experience from showering in the bathhouse, Sachu was already familiar with Rugigohno’s shower.

He didn’t have distinct preferences of the temperature for the water in the shower, so no sudden shock zapped him when the water got icy cold.

Sachu got used to it quickly though, just like when he was in the bathhouse.

The shampoo and conditioner looked the same as from the bathhouse too. Except for the soap. It was in a bottle— and the soap seemed to be liquid—

Rather than being in a bar shape.

Sachu did the same thing he did before, first scrubbing his hair with shampoo. Not a lot of dirt fell down from his scalp this time, most likely because of his previous shower.

He did smell a little though, so washing up would probably take the smell away.

After Sachu finished up, he hid behind the curtain stretching his arm out for a towel.

He got out of the shower wrapped in the towel, sitting on the toilet lid helplessly.

A loud knock came from outside the door of the restroom.

“Ms. Rugigohno? Is that you?” He cautiously opened the door with a slight squeaking noise.

“Sachu, I have your clothes on the table. We’ll need to go buy you some new ones though because you can’t continuously wear it everyday.” Rugigohno leaned on the

doorframe with her shoulder, shooing Sachu out.

The blue yukata was somehow reminiscent of Hinaru for Sachu. Although his parents were responsible for giving the yukata, Sachu somehow thought of Hinaru when looking at his yukata. Wearing it felt like he was honoring Hinaru, so wearing something different than what he usually wears was the equivalent of betrayal in Sachu’s eyes.

Although, he did need some new pairs of clothes…

Both Rugigohno and Sachu were clean by now, and just about ready to go out into the world. The only problem was Sachu. His fame increased overnight, the police more invested than ever. If Rugigohno was seen with him, either Sachu, or both him and Rugigohno could risk the chance of getting arrested.

The idea was perplexing. What would fool the minds of those who were looking for Sachu?

“Wearing something different for a change could also keep you incognito, kinda. But you’d need some other stuff to make you look different from what Kanazawa News said for you to look like.”

Instead of responding, Sachu nodded. He needed to make sacrifices for his, and Rugigohno’s safety. She headed back inside the house, digging through one of her drawers in her room. She pulled out a hat on one of the hangers in her closet, along with an oversized haori folded up neatly on the bottom drawer. It looked to be untouched for years. Visible specks of dust were scattered all over the haori, especially when Rugigohno picked it up. She did some light dusting, and took the two outside to where Sachu was.
“Wear these, Sachu.”

He took the items hesitantly, putting on the hat and the haori. The haori was so big though, that his hands were lost in he sleeves. The disguise (they hoped) would be enough.

Once both him and Rugigohno left the card match, a shudder went through Sachu’s spine as he stepped on the dirt floor. It was pretty cold this particular morning, especially since Sachu’s yukata was so thin, despite the oversized haori he was wearing along with it.

Rugigohno inched her hand towards Sachu.

“Grab my hand, Sach’. We need to stay close together the whole time we’re out. Understand?”

“Mhm…”

The card match soon faded away from the two, as they walked further into the busy, dangerous city.

The street was full of stores and markets. It was like every step they took, they encountered another store. Somehow the scenery managed to be both overwhelming and remarkable. Rugigohno wasn’t sure which store they would go into first, but she did know for a fact that she needed to get Sachu a new yukata. Sachu couldn’t help but remember when he was alone walking the streets. It wasn’t traumatic for him at all, but he’d shiver when thinking about it. Maybe his fear of being discarded was coming in more than before…

Chapter 12- First Game

Midnight’s presence came around after a few 20 minutes passed by, along with all the microscopic stars glistening in the black, dark sky. The contrast between them both was outstanding. It was a beautiful sight to see.

“Sachu! Come over here!” Rugigohno waved her hand, sitting at a table with a lamp hanging from the ceiling awning it with light. On the table sat a deck of cards. Korimeke grabbed a seat on the other side, both her and Rugigohno waiting for Sachu to come over.

“Y-yes…. Ms. Rugigohno?”

“Do you want to play poker?” She grinned, holding 7 cards vertically in her hand. Sachu’s face brightened, showcasing a smile across his face.

“Y-Yeah!!” He rushed to the seat in front of Rugigohno, taking 7 cards from the deck.

Excitement struck Sachu. It was a genuine feeling he had, and he was intrigued for what would happen next.

“I do remember…. Higher card, right?”

Rugigohno nodded.

“Uh-huh~!!”

Now the game has begun.

“Alright, Sachu. Beat this—”

She slammed down a spade 7.

Sachu took a few minutes to look at every card he had. Anything higher than 7-

8, 9, and 10.

But there were 4 more cards that would easily beat hers.

And that’s when Rugigohno decided to tell him.

“Sach’, there’s more to just the numbers.” She began.

“You see these cards? They are Queen, King, Jester, and Ace.

Queen has the value of 10, just like the normal card with 10 clovers would.

King has the value of 11. Slightly more than a Queen. Therefore, it would beat a Queen if I put it down.

Jester is also a 10, but lower than the Queen.

Last but not least, the Ace card.

The highest of them all. It doesn’t matter if you put down a 10, or Queen, or King, or anything like that. If you have that in your deck, then consider yourself lucky.”

Consider yourself lucky…

“W-What does the ace card look like, Ms. Rugigohno?” He sounded like he was on to something.

Rugigohno flipped through the deck of cards in the middle of the table.

“....It should look like this, Sachu.”

She held up a card with one big spade in the middle. Sachu smirked. A second later, he put down an Ace card. Full on.
“Daw’.... Shouldn’t’ve told you….” chuckled Rugigohno. Korimeke joined in on the laugh, and soon enough Sachu.

“Well, I guess you won!” She added, sounding defeated. But she wasn’t exactly mad. Like she wanted him to place down the Ace card.

The day finally ended, leaving a pitch black sky to come out to. It frightened Sachu a little bit.

“Alright Rugi, Sachu. I have to go now, bye!!” Embracing both Rugigohno and Sachu, she squeezed them tightly. Rugigohno waved her off, leaving both Sachu and herself inside the room.

“Bedtime, Sachu. Come on, I’ll take you to your room.” She took Sachu’s hand, leading him to the hallway.

“I hope you like it. It’s definitely more comfy, I’d say.”

Sachu walked into the room, breathing in the fresh scent of clean sheets and pillows. It looked so soft.

Before Sachu could jump onto his bed, he ran towards Rugigohno, hugging her legs tightly.
“Thank you Ms. Rugigohno. I—... love you.”

Rugigohno’s heart melted.

“I love you too. Goodnight Sachu.” She tucked him in bed, quietly closing the door behind her.

Sachu closed his eyes ever so slightly. Life could never be more peaceful.

Just a heads up, I made a few adjustments to the story. Thanks to my mom and her researches, Sachu was actually supposed to wear a yukata, not a kimono. A yukata is like a kimono but with cheaper fabrics and less layers, which supports Sachu's poor character. So yeah, if you see the word "yukata" in the next chapters, just know that's what it is. Also, the news report for S♦O♦L♦I♦T♦U♦D♦E is now 'Kanazawa News' because I just felt like Kanazawa would be a more reasonable place for S♦O♦L♦I♦T♦U♦D♦E to take place in. So yeah!! With that, let's get into the story-

Chapter 11- Different Life

Coming towards the end of the day, Rugigohno found herself preparing a room for Sachu. When she made the decision to look for him, she hadn’t taken the time to plan out where Sachu would sleep. Now that this was his new home, Rugigohno had to make adjustments to it. Sachu hadn’t told her about his preferences, despite not really having any. But because Sachu was a fairly young boy, she grabbed a plushie with stuffing leaking out, and decorated the bed with a little buddy. It wasn’t much, but she thought Sachu would notice it and like it.

Afternoon rolled around, while Sachu sat on the ground in front of the tv.

“I’ve never seen or had a tv before, Ms. Rugigohno.” The words that came out of Sachu’s mouth sounded surreal—

Like he was an alien that hadn’t experienced the average human life.

Though, when you’re not given much, you really aren’t familiar with things other people normally have at their advantage.

“Oh really? Well, I’m pretty sure you’ll like it. The tv. You can watch shows on it, including Kanazawa News, and music. There’s a lot of things on there that’s pretty cool.” Rugigohno grabbed a remote sitting on the furniture next to the couch with a lamp on top of it.

“You use this to change the channels. Look”

Sachu watched as each channel shifted into another. It was mesmerizing.

Knocking against the wooden door came echoing from the front.

Who could that be?

“Uh-uhm… Ms. Rugigohno? There’s knocking coming from outside—” Sachu turned to the door’s direction, an unfamiliar girl with purple hair peeping through the shades.

“Give me a second, Sach’.” responded Rugigohno, the words bouncing off each hallway wall and into the room Sachu was sitting in.

The knocking came again.

“M-Ms. Rugigo-”

“I’m coming, I’m coming!!”

Rugigohno twisted the handle, welcoming in the girl.

“Rugi!! Hi!!” The girl cheered, pulling Rugigohno into an embrace.

“Oh!! And who is this little guy?” She squealed, sprinting towards Sachu. Rugigohno chuckled, putting her hand on the girl’s shoulder.

“That, Korimeke, is Sachu.

Sachu, if you’re comfortable with it, would you mind introducing yourself to Korimeke?”

He looked at Korimeke, his eyes immediately turning to her vibrant purple hair.

“Your hair is…. purple…” He muttered, the brightness of it hurting his eyes. Korimeke laughed.

“Yup, it’s purple alright. Y’know, you’re a pretty cute little boy— has anyone told you that before?”

Sachu shook his head, little strands of his hair moving along with it.

“Well, now someone has.”

Sachu moved on the carpet, allowing Korimeke to sit down next to him.

“So, Sachu… Whatcha like?” interrogated Korimeke, twiddling her thumbs as each word came out of her mouth. Sachu had to take a moment to find the right response, spinning in his head like a roller coaster.

“Well…. I-It might sound funny, but I really like sandwiches from stores.”

Korimeke smiled.

“It doesn’t sound funny at all, Sachu. In fact, I quite like convenience store sandwiches too!” She took his hand, putting it in hers. Its warmth heated up Sachu’s hand.

He knew for a fact that he was surrounded by safe people. It was… different.

Chapter 10- Rugigohno

Rugigohno was a stranger, if anything. But she seemed so outgoing and welcoming, that Sachu couldn’t deny going with her.

Although, he didn’t really have a choice. Especially since the police were involved. It just seemed so strange that Rugigohno came to take him out of nowhere…

“My house is connected to the card match, ya see. But it’s still quite homey… hopefully.” She squeezed Sachu’s hand.

He wasn’t familiar with the gesture. But he knew for a fact that he was somehow—

safe.

“Your house seems…. pretty.” Sachu observed. It wasn’t anything special. But it was definitely an upgrade from what he had to return to before.

“Thank you! This is practically your home now, so no need to worry about that shed.” Rugigohno announced, opening the door to the house. A burst of dust flew out gracefully and flowed around Sachu’s face. He wanted to feel them in his hands, and his fingers. Other than trying a sandwich for the first time, Sachu felt so lively and happy.

Rugigohno closed the door behind her, indicating Sachu to sit down.

“Tell me more about you. Shikoku News is home to bad descriptors.” She chuckled lightly, covering her mouth elegantly.

Sachu smiled sincerely. He admired her humour.

“There’s a lot about me, Ms…. ms… Sorry- I forgot your name.” He lightly put his hand on his forehead, looking down.

“That’s alright, Sachu. My name is Rugigohno.

R-U-G-I-G-O-H-N-O~!!” She spelled out, while reassuringly smiling.

“Long name! But I like it.

Anyways, I came from an abusive family. Not my brother though, he was nice to me. But we were just abused to the limit, so me and my brother— Hinaru, left out into the woods. He went off to find food because we were both so famished, but he never returned. I went looking for him, but my journey to find him was so long that I reached the end of the forest. And here in the city. I adjusted myself here. It was nice. But this is even better.” presumed Sachu, catching his breath. Rugigohno simply nodded. It was as if she took a moment to process everything Sachu had just said. Like a robot.

She stood up, walking towards the fridge. Sachu was left dainty in the chair, examining everything around him. The couch. The tv. The furniture that held a telephone on it. He looked Rugigohno’s way, a mini fridge and another piece of furniture sitting there.

“What are you doing?” Sachu queried, his big eyes gleaming at Rugigohno.

“Getting food, Sachu. Would you want some?” Rugigohno walked towards where Sachu was sitting, placing down a packet of saltines. She chuckled.

“I wasn’t lying when I said I had saltines…”

They both seemed to match each other’s energy. Rugigohno was talkative, so was Sachu. The more they blathered, the more Sachu saw Rugigohno as a mother figure. And boy, was it wholesome.

After Rugigohno settled into her seat, she began to sprout a conversation.

“I suppose I should add a bit of backstory to myself here now, since you’ve given me full detail about your life before you came with me.”

Sachu remained silent, yet smiled stuffed with saltines, little crumbles of it falling out his mouth.

“Well, you already know my age, my name, and that I play poker!”

“May I ask a question?” Sachu interrupted.

“Sure…”

“What is poker, exactly?”

Rugigohno’s face lit up.

“What isn’t poker?!

Well… actually a lot of things, but I live my life through poker– so yeah, what isn’t poker, but— I should stop blabbing and get to the point. Basically, you have 7 cards, and go against someone else with the same amount. The objective is to place a card higher than what the person against you puts down.

For instance, let’s say Person A puts down a club 6. Person B is looking through their deck of cards, wondering which one to choose.

They have

Diamond 8

Spade 2

and Heart 6. Remember, you have to put a card higher than what the other person puts down, so which one should Person B pick to win?” Rugigohno was riled up. She was nerdy about the topic, so it wasn’t a surprise she would go on and on about it.

“Diamond 8 maybe?”

“DING DING DING! Correct!! And with that, Person B wins one round. Oh yeah. And if you win a round, you get to take the other person’s card that they played with, because it was lower. Whoever collects the most cards at the end wins the whole game. Simple.” She had Sachu intrigued. He wanted to ask her if he could try playing it, but she didn’t finish explaining everything. So he let her go on.

“There’s much more to me than poker though, Sachu. That’s just one of the biggest parts of me. Other than that, I’m just an ordinary teen. I have one parent, which is my mom, because my dad died in a fire at work when I was 8. Couldn’t remember much. But I wish he was still here. I’m also best friends with Korimeke Ahhaku. She might come here to visit later this day. She’s really nice. Then I have a few more friends, Ukime and Wayorada, who play poker too. They sometimes play at my games, but other than that, they choose to go against each other at their place. Overall, that’s pretty much it-!!” Rugigohno grinned. With much more context about Rugigohno, he knew that he liked her.

Chapter 8- Leaving

After all that Sachu had wished for, was finally flushing down the drain. He got his hopes too high.

All that needed to be done was for Sachu to step outside into the depths of where everyone would be waiting for him. Smothering him with cameras and microphones. How would he find out? Allies would surely come in handy.

The warmth of the hay mixed with the crisp winds of the morning. Each strand of hay left an indentation on Sachu’s cheek. He was half awake. But his body still lay limp.

A few more minutes… He sounded in his head. It was almost as if people were taking the lost boy situation lightly. No people cramming their way through people to reach the shed. All of them just stayed home. Sachu would have to make the effort to get people riled up. Not themselves.

Worse could happen. The police could come and take Sachu away, in a cold place made of cement and tears.

It wasn’t too far away from what Sachu had lived before.

Maybe a little more giving.

But that would do anything for Sachu.

He was already adjusted to living the life he was in the shed, independently. Being taken away would be like a downgrade, and that wouldn’t work well with him.

Sachu yawned softly, stretching his little body to its max. He got up, looking out into the outside world.

His eyes were glazed over from what seemed to be moisture. After rubbing them a bit, Sachu cracked his back sitting up straight.

“I’ve been going out in the mornings too often…” He said to himself.

The shed was only so big though. There wasn’t really anything to do in there other than sleeping or sitting in there.

Day old convenience store food sat next to him. Sachu wasn’t exactly hungry at the moment, so he decided to leave it there for a little longer.

He shifted towards the wall of the shed, running his thin fingers through the crevices crammed with dirt.

Loneliness kicked in, overshadowing Sachu.

There was really nothing to keep Sachu up. His body was still a little weak. Sachu sat back down, picking up a strand of hay. He took another one, and intertwined it with the other strand. Sachu never learned how to crochet, knit, or anything like that. But he somehow managed to teach himself— almost as if it came to mind by itself. He knew about braids, but never tried one. He was intrigued to make one though. So that’s what he did. Sachu put one of the strands over the other, twisting and turning and intertwining it in all the different ways that shaped it. He went on with the braid until there was no more hay left to braid. Sachu took a moment to gaze at the creation he made, holding the masterpiece up. A blast of dopamine hit him. It felt good. Like he accomplished something impressive.

Sure, it wasn’t something out of the ordinary, but it was something that made him proud, and that’s all that mattered.

Putting the threads of hay down, Sachu rested his head back on the hay. He was carefree. Clean and fed, Sachu laid low. There was nothing to worry about in his perspective. In fact, the urge to find Hinaru simmered down. Of course he wanted to find him, but Sachu became less hard on himself to find Hinaru so suddenly.

Sachu began to drift off into his thoughts. He became a little lightheaded.

What is…… reality?

He slowly closed his eyes, but during the process, he felt a subtle sore sting closing them. As if he wouldn’t open them again.

The amount of time Sachu was asleep was unknown. It was so random. Still, nobody seemed to stop by his shed.

Too good to be true though.

Because that didn’t last.

If that certain somebody didn’t knock, Sachu would’ve probably stayed asleep until his body naturally jolted him awake. He slept easily, but awakening from slumber was even easier. The slightest noise could be made and Sachu would open his eyes. It had seemed that he was very sensitive to sound.

Knock knock.

A subtle hit against the wood could be heard, almost blending with the soothing demeanor that took place at the moment.

It came again. This time louder, and loud enough to startle Sachu.

“H-HEY!- Wait… Oh…. S-SORRY-” Sachu covered his face in shame.

A girl of 17 stood there, smiling awkwardly.

“That’s okay, kid.”

She held out her hand, almost glowing in the sunlight behind her.

“Come with me.”

Chapter 7- InFamous

Many things that took place that day seemed to come in Sachu’s favor. He was clean, had a home, what else could he ask for? He was grateful, except for one thing standing in his way.

Using everything he has as an advantage. Sachu was a shy, down to earth little boy. Getting spoiled with things and experiences would soon corrupt his sweet little soul.

He was quite surprised when he became the neighborhood celebrity as well. How was this possible? All he did was amble his way through life, nothing more— Except….

Everyone and everything thought otherwise.

This morning, at 7:43, a news broadcast showcased in front of everyone’s screen.

Here was the recording now.

“Today’s report on Shikoku News-

A little boy is seen roaming the streets. There were no adult guardians spotted while this boy circuited his way through the town, suspected of no shelter or parents taking care of him.

This sprouted the conspiracy that this boy was alone,without the supervision of anyone or anything. Before this gets out of hand, please contact this number below.We will try to take this into our own hands. If you spot this boy near you, report to us immediately. We are unsure if he is in danger, or he is dangerous himself.

The following is a description of what people have said for him to look like:

Jet Black hair

Purple-ish black eyes

Pale skin

Blue kimono with white dots all over

Orange sandals

Looks about the age of 9

If any of the traits given above match such an individual, please contact us. This will not be said again.

Too many people had already seen it. It was just a matter of time before loads of people came cluttering the shed Sachu stayed in. Everyone pushing each other, dying to film him. He would be swarmed. Overwhelmed. Taken away. It would trigger his trauma.

And only from that would he break down, causing a scene in front of everyone watching. Sachu needed to leave, and leave now.

His so-called ‘paradise’ was taking its toll…

Chapter 6- The Bathhouse

Time flew by after Sachu crashed out. It was about 6 in the morning. Sachu was still sound asleep, unbothered by the winds that came in daily in the mornings. Seemed like Sachu was fully adjusted now. Next to him lay the food and drink he purchased, hiding away in the hay. The water he got from the convenience store on the first day he found the city was gone. It was strange. He drank quite a bit of water, but there was still enough left for one last sip. And the bottle just disappeared. It wasn’t that important, just strange.

After a while, Sachu finally managed to wake up. When he did, he was greeted with another gust of wind. It wasn’t as strong as before, but still enough to get him jump out of the hay. Sachu hadn’t taken the time to clean himself. His breath smelt worse than before, and it came to the point where it was bugging him. He wanted to bathe, but he didn’t know how. Until he thought of a plan, Sachu walked back to the shed to grab his ramune. He had never tried ramune either, so he was unsure of how it would taste. Judging by its appearance, it looked quite sweet. And his assumptions were true. Once he unscrewed the cap to the bottle, he unleashed the brewing chemical drink and into his mouth. Did he like it? He wasn’t quite sure. Sachu wasn’t a sweet tooth, mainly because he never really had anything sweet, but the flavor was quite artificial. It was supposed to taste like blue raspberry, but to Sachu, he rather just tasted the ‘blue’.

Sachu wasn’t completely done with his drink. Because he had mixed emotions about it, he proceeded to hold on to it instead of drinking it, but that didn’t bother him. He needed to find a place to shower so he could finally get the relief of feeling clean.

That’s when it hit him—

He would undertake in an act;

By that, Sachu would ruffle up his hair, maybe roll around in some dirt to make it look like he’d been living in shambles. The only way this would work is if the person themself was sympathetic enough to let a dirty homeless boy into their bathhouse. Of course, its whole purpose is for people to bathe and wash themselves, so….

why wouldn’t he be allowed? The thing was, Sachu over-thought too much. He rather brang himself down more than he thought people and reality would, so realistically, he probably would be able to be let inside. But the next big thing was finding a bathhouse.

After a few minutes of conspiring, Sachu brang up the courage to ask someone where one of the bathhouses was located. He was still slightly shy and not so good at socializing, but there was definitely improvement. Sachu just found it hard to find the words to respond to somebody asking him something out of curiosity, or just simply them trying to create small talk. And Sachu knew very well that he couldn’t get around it. The best he could do was suck it up, and try his best.

Sachu had to dig deep in his heart to find the confidence to pull someone over and talk with them. Although, secretly he wished somebody else would sprout up a conversation instead of himself having to take the lead. But his stench was bothering him. He needed to act fast. Revisiting what he planned earlier, he purposely tripped onto the road and horsed around a bit to pick up some of the grime on the floor. Instead of ruffling his hair, Sachu left it alone. He thought it was pretty evident already that he needed a bath. His efforts were done.

….Well— no, not completely. Sachu needed to find someone to help lead him to, or allow him to bathe inside a bathhouse. And finding someone was as slightly harder than it seemed. It was worded that way because Sachu was surrounded by tons of people. If not, maybe even DOZENS. But as a reminder, Sachu was still breaking out of his shell. He wasn’t fully submerged, and wasn’t ready to articulate. He viewed it as a life lesson, rather applying to what he should do in those scenarios. But Sachu wasn’t done yet. The random choice of a stranger was yet to come.

It was….

An old lady. Kumiko Arakaki was her name. She was fairly spunky for 72, and didn’t hesitate to strike up a conversation. It had seemed Kumiko had saved Sachu’s but with that one. He still needed to contribute though.

“Speak again dear, these ears don’t work as well as they used to…. Hah.

-Maybe that’s a sign I get hearing aids…” She muttered. Despite her overflowing attitude, Sachu was able to tolerate it. And it was enough to accordingly respond.

“I nee-...nee ... .need? Oh, I need to find a bathhouse. D-do you know any nearby?” Sachu was flustered.

Why won’t this stupid stuttering go away?! A gush of frustration filled his head, looking soullessly at Kumiko.

“Why wouldn’t I? This woman’s lived here for 53 straight years, and she knows this place like the back of her hand-!! And because this woman is so nice, she’s offering to walk this dear little boy over there. Now the question is, will he accept it?” She leaned in to Sachu, impatiently waiting for him to say something.

The classic Sachu;

-A subtle head nod, refusing to make any further interactions.

If that wasn’t enough context, that was exactly what Sachu did. And for a hype old lady, she took that subtle head nod as a yes without hesitation.

Sachu was immensely relieved to hear there was even a place to clean off near him. Although they were pretty common.

Kumiko’s wrinkly hand grasped his, and speedily walked through the bustling depths of the sidewalk. Soon Sachu could smell a faint aroma of steam, which he inferred was coming from a bathhouse. His life finally seemed to work out for him.

They walked a bit of ways. It wasn’t as far as Sachu expected it to be.

Kumiko was up for chit chat along the way, which Sachu was a bit shy about. He finally

found somebody to take him though, so he didn’t really mind.

“So, why is it that this little boy is wandering around here? Doesn’t his parents know a thing or two about safety?” Sachu always became sore about this question, but the least he could do was answer a fair explanation.

“I don’t really have any…. Any parents. So I am here… whatever I am…” He gulped. Kumiko could tell he wasn’t very comfortable with that specific topic. So she left it alone from there.

“Well… here you are. Please stay safe out there with whoever is taking care of you. Goodbye dear child.” She waved Sachu off, patting his little head.

Before Sachu could enter the bathhouse, Kumiko stopped him in his tracks.

What could she want now? He turned, finding Kumiko standing there smiling at him wholeheartedly.

“I’d like to know your name. We haven’t spent the whole day together, but it was nice connecting with you. It would be nice to know the name of the person I’m talking to, so if you don’t mind, you can share with me. My name is Kumiko.”

For the first time since a while, Sachu sincerely smiled back.

“Sachu. My name’s Sachu. And Ku…Kukomi? Well, even if I said it wrong, your name sounds nice. I have to go now to shower, bye!”

Kumiko chuckled. Shower. A nice little friend he made along the way.

First steps Sachu made into the bathhouse were on the wet floor covered by a thick layer of mist.

Sachu tried walking to one of the spots filled with gallons and gallons of water. But people at the front desk were set on stopping him.

“Excuse me! Hey! Excuse me little boy! Are there adult guardians here with you?” One of the workers uttered. Sachu didn’t move. He walked back forth, and in front of the woman behind the desk.

“Are there any parents looking after you?” She interrogated, looking seriously into Sachu black, empty eyes. He remembered how independent he felt that one day. Sachu

revised any awkward responses he could’ve had after the woman asked this, and instead remarked confidently.

“No. I have no parents. I came here to shower. May I?”

She did some unrelated typing on the computer laid in front of her, and looked back at Sachu.

“I guess. You do look quite dirty. I’ll send someone to gather you some shampoo and body wash. I will escort you to your stall. Come on now.” She walked from behind the desk, and lightly pushed Sachu’s back with her perfectly trimmed nails.

Life was starting to ease up on him.

After receiving a handful of soaps and other things, Sachu unclothed himself inside the stall and gently turned the nozzle sideways. Right after, a blast of cold water came pouring down Sachu. He yelped a little, his body adjusting to the temperature. He gazed down at the drain, all the dirt falling from his scalp. Sachu began to relax in the shower, picking up the shampoo and opening the cap. Perplexed a little, he fortunately put a glob of some in his hair. It was almost as if Sachu was massaging his own head. His hair became extremely sudsy, especially after cleansing his scalp until all the dirt was removed. Because he was still unsure of what to do other than washing his hair, he grabbed the bar of soap and examined it a little. It wasn’t a liquid, which Sachu correctly inferred was for his body. He had nothing to scrub himself with, so he instead used the bar of soap by itself to clean his body. It wasn’t thorough, but enough to remove the stench that was coming from him. Instead of washing himself more, he stood in the water letting it dribble from the tips of his hair onto the floor. Sachu truly felt in heaven for the time he bathed.

Sachu rattled the door until it opened. When he walked out, so did steam from the shower. He grabbed the towel hanging outside the door, and wrapped it around himself. He walked outside the room where all the stalls stayed, and into the front where the lady was.

She merely noticed him, a little frustrated with Sachu’s constant presence.

“Oh… dear. Why are you out in front with your towel? Go back in there. We’ll get something situated for you.”

“But what will I wear? I left my kimono and sandals outside and I didn’t see them there…” Sachu remarked, a little stressed.

“We have someone washing that in the back for you. As for the sandals, I’m holding on to them. Just go back to where the stalls are and we’ll bring them to you.” She

presumed, the tone of her voice was exhausted almost, like she was done with working her shift.

“Okay…” Sachu denoted.

Before he sauntered over to the stalls, she uttered Sachu to come back.

“Did you brush your teeth, kid? Because I can smell your breath from here.” She looked disgusted, handing him a toothbrush and toothpaste. Sachu embarrassedly took them, and officially walked back to the stalls covering his face in humility.

Other people eyed Sachu as he walked back into the stall with the toothbrush. He wasn’t unfamiliar with brushing his teeth though, because he witnessed his parents brushing their teeth through a crack in the door. He squeezed a bit of toothpaste on his toothbrush, and began brushing. A fruity flavor filled his mouth, which Sachu found tasty. He wanted to swallow some, but after a moment of realization, he acknowledged that it probably wouldn’t be the smartest to do that.

After brushing the roof of his mouth also, Sachu spit out the fruity substance. It had a pink tint to it. How fun. He wiped his mouth and opened the stall door again, this time standing in front of it waiting for his kimono.

Sachu stared at the people passing by, wondering what life they were leading. The more he thought about it, the deeper his curiosities got. He truly wanted to know if anyone was going through the same thing as him. And if true, that he would coincidentally meet them.

“Here you are, your freshly folded and dry-cleaned kimono. Put it on and meet me at the front desk when you’ve fully clothed yourself.” remarked a different worker this time. Another girl, but it wasn’t the same person.

Sachu took the clothes and went back into the stall. He hung the towel over the door while struggling to hold his kimono at the same time. The interior of the stall was wet and sudsy. Sachu tried his hardest to not touch the walls. Especially since his kimono had previously been washed. Once dressed, Sachu came out of the stall for the third time. His bare cold feet hit each step of the floor, making a slight thudding sound. The same worker from earlier held his sandals for him, biding her time for Sachu to take them from her.

“I don’t 100% percent believe you that you have no parents…—

But you really needed that shower. And lucky you, because our shower stalls are free to use, with no cost. If you would’ve used the hot springs in the back, that would’ve been a different story. Nonetheless, thank you for your service. Wakare~!” She bowed, leaving Sachu to conclude on a short journey back home. Sachu took the sandals, and left quite the experience behind.

His satisfaction was fulfilled.

Chapter 5- Free Will

Sachu had started to get the hang of living alone. Especially in the shed. He noticed he rather likes being alone more than having to live near a busy street with lots of people. Of course, if he had the opportunity to be with Hinaru, he would within a heartbeat. Sachu sometimes ached about Hinaru, but Sachu needed to get into a better condition before walking some ways to find him. Purchasing the food was the best thing yet, but now he could finally enjoy it in his shed. The only thing utterly strange would be the cereal. Why, you may ask? Mostly due to the fact that it needed milk, and Sachu didn’t purchase any milk. But Sachu never had cereal before.

Heck, he thought it was just chips in a cardboard box…!

Nobody could stop him from eating it the way he did though. There was quite literally nobody that could stop him, though. Everything seemed abandoned. Just how Sachu liked it…

A lot had been purchased. Sachu himself was even sure he wouldn’t be able to eat everything in one day. Because he had so much, Sachu thought he would only eat the sandwich first, because that’s what he really seemed to like. Of course, there were tons of other snacks that varied from savory to sweet. It would only be a matter of time before he finds out about other things.

Heaven enclosed into food

Is what Sachu thought. He sat down in the heap of hay and carefully unwrapped the plastic holding the pristine sandwich. Although he already knew what it was like to taste a sandwich, he still found joy in trying them. And it was confirmed. Sachu’s favorite food was convenience store sandwiches.

Any description for how it went when Sachu ate the sandwich isn’t needed, because it was pretty evident that he gobbled it down within 3 seconds. He wiped some of the condiment off his face, and laid down into the hay looking up at the ceiling.

I wonder what it would be like if Hinaru was here… He thought to himself. It might’ve made the experience more fun, but Sachu cherished the time he had by himself. And it wasn’t overkill. He generally liked it. But of course, he wouldn’t hesitate to be present with Hinaru. Just now, Sachu was experiencing so many new things. He hadn’t fully adjusted, but he was getting there. And Sachu was well acceptant that this was going to be his life for a while.

Despite the perfect weather, Sachu wasn’t exactly in the mood to go walking. He liked the shed. It was his new little home, and he was happy about it. Due to the fact that Sachu would rather stay in the shed, he let the world go by. He just closed his eyes for a minute, smelling in the aroma of hay and cold air. The cold air tickled his nose a bit, almost as if it was minty or something. It almost burned as well. Not a painful type of burn, but that burning sensation that comes from mint. Refreshing. Because his surroundings were so calm and quiet, this led to Sachu falling asleep once again. This wasn’t a bad thing, though. He needed rest. It would recharge his body, maybe leading him to the direction that he should search for Hinaru the next day. And for once, Sachu felt laid back. Like life was going to be ok, especially since Sachu himself knew that he was in control.

It was his life now, and he could do whatever he liked.

Title!! Me, honestly probably people who are attention seeking and think they are better than everyone else. I have this one friend (Mel, u might know who I'm talking about) who is nice and good like, 50% of the time, but the other half the time she is always trying to show off. She does makeup and reads a lot so she always tries to use big words to impress people but SHE USES THEM IN THE WRONG WAY!! Like, what?? ANd when I correct her she looks at me condescendingly, kinda scoffs, and tries to tell me that I'm wrong. And when I calmly say, no, I am not wrong, and give her proof, she gets all worked up and says stuff like "Fine, it was just a mistake no need to make a big deal about it you always make such a big deal of my flaws"and so I'm just like wateverrrr. BUT SHE DOES THAT SAME THING!! Like, whenever I make a typo she corrects me and copies and pastes a google article of the latin roots of the word, claiming she wrote it herself, but when I paste it into google, lo and behold, an article pops up with the exact same wording. Coincidence? I think not. She also sings and has a medium-low voice, but she sings songs in a key she thinks is the right key and because its lower she thinks it sounds flattering to her voice, but she always sings SO LOUD and OVER AND OVER AGAIN and honestly the sound of her voice makes me want to rip off my own ears but I don't say that obviously I don't want to hurt her feelings. When she asks if she sounds good I say yeah, so then she thinks shes better than me so when i just start quietly humming a song she corrects me on notes, when BY THE WAY, the notes that she says are wrong ARE RIGHT!!! Okokokokok this is long but im almost done i swear. One other thing is small, but drives me ABSOLUTELY INSANE. When she orders food she brings her voice down like 3 octaves. SHE NEVER TALKS LIKE THAT. Shes just attention seeking -_-

I like to bake/cook more often. When I have school, I normally don't get home until 2:50 or 3 pm then it's homework and some chores I have around the house so by the time I'm done, I'm tired and I don't want to do much. My mother also complains during the school year about having to make dinner every night so In the summer I usually cook 1 or 2 days a week. So during the summer, I am able to bake and cook more often then I normally would. I also have time for recipes that are very time consuming like peanut butter buckeyes and Oreo cupcakes. Speaking of cupcakes, I got a pipping bag set so now I can decorate cupcakes. I'll post pictures of the cupcakes and peanut butter buckeyes when I make them. but here is the piping bag set.

I'm actually getting really tired of this and it's getting out of hand. When I go on the front page of KT, I keep seeing people hating on Christianity, and so on, and so on. And it's really getting more frequent. Religion of course is a heavy topic, but people are just going out of their way to say "Oh, your religion sucks!" just gives me a VERY bad taste in my mouth. It's not such a problem if you say it nicely, like "Oh, sorry, I personally don't believe in *insert religion*." It goes around the other way, too. If you're One religion, you can't go around saying "Oh, you're wrong! Only *insert religion* is real!". This probably has nothing to do with anything, and I'm not even being specific right now because I don't care to remember their usernames, but it seems to mostly be signed out users doing saying these things. Of course, not JUST them, but I think you know what I mean. Really, we shouldn't even have this conversation right now. Sorry, it's really just getting annoying now. Btw, I'm not saying to stop discussing religion all together. What I'm saying is don't shun other religions, in short. Also, yes I am Christian, if anybody is wondering. And I'm not just talking about Christianity/Atheism, but the other ones too. I know this isn't something I'd usually post, so I'm sorry for the bad mood. But please keep other people in mind before typing anything mean about religion! <3
