The wildfires

Some of you might know that there’s some big wildfires in the LA area, Malibu, and everywhere in between. Many people have been affected, and many houses have burned down. One of the towns in the LA area, Altadena, is pretty much on flames. There’s also several neighborhoods in LA that are being destroyed by the fires. I’ve seen footage of the fires before and they are big, and they’re even burning whole mansions down. I personally don’t know anyone affected by this in real life, but the members of my favorite band (RHCP) live in the LA area and that means they’re affected, at least 2 live in Malibu (one of them is my celebrity crush, Anthony Kiedis. Sorry I had to bring that up, but I don’t want him or anyone else in general (even outside the band) to die). Since I found out about the fires, all I’ve been worrying about is whether the people are okay. More specifically RHCP but also all the residents in general. Unfortunately there’s been at least 5 deaths, 5 deaths that were not needed…

My WoF opinions ~~ Thorn

here I go again...

I have mixed opinions...

I have mostly positive feelings about Thorn. As far as I’ve seen, she’s good to the dragonets she raised, she’s very patient with them, she’s there for them, she’s an incredible queen, supportive of her daughter and Qibli, and overall, she’s probably one of the best parents out of the whole series so far, next to Secretkeeper.

I agree that maybe Thorn shouldn’t have killed him immediately, but honestly, I didn’t feel bad for him. He did lash out at her, and t audience was aware that he was going to rat out the main characters to a blood thirsty queen and he kidnapped Sunny. I also like to think she reacted out of instinct due to that and she regretted it afterwards. In a world fraught with war and suffering, where you need to be careful about members outside your territory and what their goals may be, it’s pretty understandable to react in instinct to someone when they attack you, especially if they’re outsiders galavanting around in YOUR territory.

Here's some of her pros:

I really enjoy Thorn as a character!! I like that she’s a good leader who used organized crime to do good for a society, and I like that she’s angry and curses and takes no **** at all. She’s fiercely loyal and quick on her feet and empathetic and she curses so much she could make a sailor blush

Here's some of her cons:

I think that Thorn told Cobra to give Qibli to her because she could tell that Cobra was an awful parent to him. I haven't read Darkness of Dragons in a while but iirc, she only suggested that after witnessing Cobra's cruel behavior toward Qibli.

When Qibli nearly killed everyone with a sandstorm, thorn merely gave him a slap on the wrist which was not enough imo. Furthermore, having an abused, traumatized dragonet be your advisor/right talon dragon within the scorpion den probably wasn’t the best decision in my eyes.

I wish she had gotten introduced in earlier books so she didn’t come out of nowhere. I haven’t read the first arc in a while, but I believe Thorn wasn’t mentioned til Book 5. I feel like having established her as a “ruthless” leader beforehand who takes no bull and kills to show her authority would have made for a nice plot twist in Book 5.

Imagine this: we see an epilogue of Thorn conversing with the Talons of Peace or something, and she finds out that Sunny is out running around. She orders her gang to begin looking and wants to kill someone that disagrees with her decision, but decides not to.

Then in Book 5 she’s shown to be a good leader who considers all options and did everything possible to get her daughter back. Eh, just spitballing without planning. I feel like Thorn really would’ve benefitted from having a small POV in the form of a prologue or an epilogue beforehand.

He is good and bad.

Heres some reasons i don't like him:

1. He's a literal stalker.

Proof -- whats the first paragraph say? -- Qibli stood on one of the peaks of Jade Mountain, watching the group of seven dragons fly away to the west.Although there were four small black NightWings flying in the group, he knew exactly which one was Moon. He’d flown with her all the way through the Sky Kingdom, to Possibility and back. He knew the way she held her wings to catch the changing winds. He recognized the way she tipped her head up to breathe in the sunlight.

If someone knew the way I WALKED i'd be VERY scared.

2. Qibli's name

Whats a Qibli???!!!! Someone tell me!

3. He's arkward.

Remember when Sunny meets Queen Thorn? Thorn dismissed the Outclaws and he never left! It made the whole chapter really weird. It was probably because of personal reasons and connections to Thorn, but still, its not okay. And this is only one of the times something like this happens.

4. He always gets what he wants and is to smart.

I like smart characters, but his thoughts going across the whole double-page is just giving me headaches. And he just gets to use Turtle's magic freely!(AND NOT GET PUNISHED!!!)

now, i don't hate him, so heres some pros:

-He's funny

-It's cool to be raised by the Outclaws

Blood roared through the dragon's ears. Roars and screams of fury sounded all around him. How was he still alive? He had no clue. Another gust of flame flew past his ear, scorching the tip. You'd think it wouldn't be that painful, but it hurt, badly. He grabbed his spear, and charged. Through the chaos of the battle, he had no idea how he had got there, and why he was fighting, only that there were enemies, and they needed to die.

He looked down at his talons, warm and sticky with dripping red liquid. Teeth chomped into another dragon's neck, claws sinking into their neck. He was out of control. He needed to get out of there, they were getting overrun. Who were they? Oh, right, his teammates. Red wings, fiery as the sunset, expanded, as he launched into the air, desperate to get out of there. Daggers, flames, and swords whisked by him, one lodging itself into his right foot. Then, a sword in his left wing.

Faster than the hawk, he plummeted from the air, colliding with the forest, smacking through branches, sliding through dirt, and ending up in a small stream. The water was pink, better than red, but still not clear. He washed his wounds, rubbing the cool water onto his shoulders. He waded downstream, until the water looked clean enough to drink, in which he did. He finally had a chance to sit, under the dark shade of multiple oak trees, scanning the horizon for any enemies. Fortunately, there were none. As he calmed down, he remembered who he was and what he was doing here, why he was fighting.

"They have declared war," the commander said. "we must fight, Do not let them win, or their cruelness will spread like an infection over the planet."

The commander sat, curling her tail over her talons. The five other dragons sitting in a semi-circle exchanged glances, whispering to each other. The higher-ups have declared war, they will tear Pyrrhia apart by starting a civil war. And the chances of them winning were very slim. But they had to try. Who knows what would happen if they took over? Nothing good, is what everybody knew. But those who didn't want to die would side with them. Their only hope was the element of surprise.

"We will win this. We are strong," the commander said.

"But will we?" he asked, tipping his head, talons ripping at the carpet the six dragons sat upon.

The splotched dragon next to him looked at him weirdly. "Of course. We have too. We are not cowards, are we?"

He bared his teeth, narrowing his eyes. "Are you calling me a coward, then?"

"Maybe I am."

He lunged towards the splotched dragon, but the blue and purple separated them, with the commander speaking. "Gentledragons, gentledragons, is this really the time and place to be starting a fight? We have a battle plan to form. One less dragon is less chance at winning."

They glanced at each other, and then the commander. "Sorry, commander," they had said at the same time.

Woozy memories, but still there. He couldn't abandon them. He had to go back and fight. This was the battle that would determine the win or the loss of the side he fought on. So many casualties on both sides, on both sides' weak points. He couldn't fail them now. He had to go back. When he tried to stand, he wobbled, looking down at his wounded wrist, pressing a few leaves against it to slow the bleeding, then examining the injured wing membrane. It wasn't quite that bad, after all. He had suffered much worse. Deal with it. Others have died, and you are still here.

You are weak.

He shook that thought away. He wasn't weak, he was merely injured, and there were hundreds of soldiers out them. They were outnumbered, 1 to 10. He looked up, to the horizon. Where were the smoke signals? There were supposed to be smoke signals, wafting up to the west when the sun set. That would be a signal to launch the bombs. Did he miss them? No, he was close enough, he had signed up for this, it was suicide. It was automatic death, the bombs were meant to blow up everything in their path. Their only chance of winning. Millions of thoughts ran through his head.

What happened? Were they killed? Was the bomb supply destroyed? Perhaps there was a mole in our ranks? All could be possible. Perhaps I should go investigate, to see what I could find.

And so that's what he did. He pushed himself up, beginning the long walk there. It was already bad enough, but now that he had a limp, it was only going to take longer.

Trees passed. The oak forest went to pine, as he hiked west. A few times he stopped to pay his respects to some old friends who received brutal deaths. They died fighting for what they believed was right. Perhaps he will, too. A jolt of fear rocketed through his body, nearly throwing him to the ground. When one doesn't think about it, death seems like a regular thing, it is natural, and it will happen to everyone, sooner or later. But when in the face of death, when one is walking on the tight, small rope of life and death, it suddenly becomes terrifying. No dragon wants to die, and he was no exception.

But even still, he continued on. He had to find the commander. He needed to know what to do next. What if the commander is dead? He shook that thought from his head, treading through the forest, flicking pine needles out of his wounds. He kept his wings pinned tight.

Suddenly, a blur of black scales flew in front of him. He stepped back, baring his teeth, and growling. It was white, and it revealed itself as a majestic IceWing, shimmering and beautiful, only little wounds on her scales. This was an enemy, he couldn't distract himself with how beautiful she looked.

"Perhaps I should spare you," she taunted, dancing out of the way when he swiped his talons at her. "I usually only fight the ones that give me a challenge. You, however, are slow as a slug. Are you sure you're not an elder in disguise?"

"I'm probably stronger than you," he retorted, standing up straight and flexing his muscles. "I'm still going strong. Even if I am inj-"

CRACK!

The IceWing swiped her tail across his face, a tooth or two knocking out. He knelt over, spitting out blood. Two teeth were knocked clean out, laying on the forest floor. He wiped some of the blood from his mouth with a talon, but he didn't both after that. "Are you so cowardly to only attack when I'm not ready?"

"There is no mood for fighting, you either do or do not, you either live or die," she countered, taking a step forward. The sound of hissing from the IceWing's throat filled the air.

He recognized that sound, his ears pricking. He jumped, the frostbreath on just grazing his tail. "Two can play at that game," he snarled, before shooting a gust of firebreath at her face.

She roared out in fury and pain, clawing at her face. He took the chance to jump forward and deliver a killing blow. He wasn't one to play games, this wasn't cat and mouse. Kill as fast as you can, letting them suffer is only cruel. And if they manage to survive, bad things will happen. In a war, there are no rules and yet rules at the same time. War crimes still exist, and he wouldn't want to be charged of one and put in prison.

The sun drifted into distant mountains, the Claws of the Clouds Mountains. Soon, it would be dark. He didn't have nightvision, as he was a SkyWing. He arrived in the scene. And nearly roared in fury. All the soldiers stationed here, were dead. They walked into an ambush. They knew they were coming. How had his dragons been so, so foolish? There had to be some sort of.. spy, or mole, in their group. He felt so mad, he wanted to rake into a a tree, into a cave, into anything.

So, he resorted to the grass, tearing it up, trying to pull bushes out. Their roots were so deep, and so he could not do anything but tug. It only made him more furious. The adrenaline coursed through his veins. He felt like he could just run over to the entire other army and destroy them all. But, he kept his emotions in check. If he was the last one, he could grow a rebellion. He had to stay alive. If he stayed alive, they had another chance at winning this.

But, wait. His head jolted up, head tipping, ears pricking. That was ragged breathing. Was there still something alive, after all? He crept over, talons lightly skimming over the dead fall leaves, the chill picking up and eating into his scales. Then, he burst out, teeth bared, in an attacking position. But there were familiar grey eyes staring at him, complete with dark-colored scales of intermixing blues, purples, and some accents of yellow, leaning against a tree, wings pinned to her sides. Blood was pooled beneath her; a knife lodged deep into her neck, which she hadn't pulled out (in fear of dying of blood loss), and multiple scratches, though the one that jumped out at him was the deep one on her neck.

"..Commander?" he asked, relaxing his battle stance.

"Captain. Good that.. you're still.. alive," she wheezed, a little breathless.

"What happened here?" he said slowly, expanding his wings to indicate the clearing littered with the dead bodies of their comrades.

"An ambush. Slovia was a mole. They spared her, and ambushed us. She ran," the commander rasped, looking down.

"A high-ranking being a traitor? That... that is strange," he exclaimed.

"No, she only abandoned us once she realized that we could not win, once she knew we were outnumbered. She saved her sorry tail and probably got rich so she could watch her comrades brutally murdered before her eyes..." the Commander said, a glazed look in her eyes.

The Captain knew that look. That was the look that the Commander had when she was forced to kill someone she loved. He didn't ask, only turned his head up, muscles rippling in the evening light. He looked around, behind the Commander, until his eyes feel onto the body of a white, pure-blooded IceWing. It stuck out like a fourth moon in the forest, glowing as the moon reflected off its scaled. He sighed. Slovia, you idiot. Slovia's throat was slashed, her eyes practically ripped out. He knew the Commander as efficient and quick, not... not, this.

He looked closer. The killing cut to the neck was rather... jagged. He felt sick to the bone. The Commander had repeatedly scratched her throat, talons digging into Slovia's neck, over and over again. He looked at her warily.

"I did what I have to," the Commander hissed softly, losing strength.

"No, no, you didn't. You wasted time by torturing Slovia," he growled.

"Ah, you're sad that I killed her. I forgot that you liked her," the Commander sneered.

He burned with embarrassment, but shook it away. "I mean that you wasted time torturing her, instead of running away, and now here you are, leaning up against a tree, dying."

Peril

Movable oven and heater for hire, Her scales, they say, are made out of fire. She’s pretty awesome and adorable as well, But sometimes she’ll turn your life into hell :) Let’s be fair, her past was sad, I mean, look at the mother figure she’d had, She’d be killing from dusk to dawn, Until Scarlet died, but that was later on. She learnt to recover in a rapid way, Sped up because by her side was Clay, Her story might be strange, but she isn’t stranger, Introducing Peril, who doesn’t mean danger.

Camel

He’s got a family and a wholesome life, Together with his partner (possibly his wife?) We couldn’t let it get ruined by Burn, Although there’s a few things he should learn. It’s Burn’s palace; he might be a guard, But you know he’s got something left in his heart, He may be the most cowardly of his kind, But there’s a lot more under the surface you can find.

Scarlet

Okay, let’s admit it, she’s basically Bloody Mary, And reading the first book was kinda scary. Ego issues to this extremely high point, You better respect Scarlet or she’ll break all your joints. She isn’t afraid to abuse her power, She’ll willingly lock you up in a tower. Drained of sanity, fight to the death, The most painful moments of your final breath. Iconic queens have iconic looks, We all loved her beauty in the books. Don’t make fun of it or you’ll be her next target, Run for your life, here she is, Queen Scarlet

Tortoise

Timid voice and scales green, The unfortunate victim of the queen. She may be doing all that it takes, But she’s punished for taking a lunch break. Yes, yes, we know it’s her job, But it’s not fair when there’s this big mob, Willing to kill royalty, so many are there, Yet Tortoise gets the worst of it, it’s really unfair.

Glory

Morrowseer might not care, But Glory exists and she’s there, She might be threatened to be killed, But it won’t bother our queen still. The replacement dragon that survived, Heroically willing to rescue her tribe. She may be a dragonet, but she’s got her story, Everyone bow down to Queen Glory.

Kinkajou

RainWings are ‘lazy and carefree’ Or at least that’s how it’s put, Blend in to the forest, swing from a tree, But Kinkajou is anything but. An exploding-prone bundle of joy, Her blood pressure might as well fly, She’s energetic in everything, help or destroy, And you know you’re in for a ride. Kidnapped, then tortured every day, Won’t break her, we all know it’s true, Energetic in almost every way, Say hello to Kinkajou.

Everyone knows that the powers are gone No mind reader nonsense from now on, But wait, we’re not even one book through, Boom, presenting Moon, just for you. I definitely recommend this book.

Wof 1 is a great book, but I do think in the SkyWing arena it does get a bit graphic. If you get this book, you should love it but it can get boring for some people. It is also a good book to write stories and essays off of.

OK. Help. Soo… I’m making a WoF fan-fic and I have a character named Knoledgeseeker. She is a dwarf mix of a mudwing and nightwing (like sunny but a mudwing instead of a sandwing). She has a heart pupil and she is like Moonwatcher, but she was also an animus, making things very difficult for her. She also has perminant black line tear that goes the pTh of a normal crying dragonet that formed when she watched both of her parents die in the war (in the timeline of book 5-6, watching her parents die in the war right before the dragonets stopped it). She forced herself to go to the dragonets’ scool. She is quiet and mainly stays in starflight’s library and adored scrolls. She usually puts in earplugs at night to block out her noisy clawmates, not knowing how else to block the noise out. She is usually skittish and at lunch she eats in the library. Visiting the library so much, Starflight mixes her up with other dragonets. People usually crowd around her because, like winter, she has a pet scavenger she saved from her parents before they died, then she named the scavenger ‘daisy’, as a memorabilia of her mother, Daisy being her mother’s name. Her clawmates usually wanna eat Daisy, so she has to be careful. She often has visions once every week, and not being able to block out ANY thoughts,she gets overwhelmed and overstimulated very easy and once lost control and killed all the prey in the prey center. WOW!! What a day!!!!

Accidents can happen any time so you better be prepared! Two days ago me and my sister and my grandparents were going somewhere and then the turbo charger on their SUV went out. Then the back started smoking then we went to a gas station and tried to go up the driveway hill. But the engine cut off before we even got to the gas station. We pulled over on the side of the road. We all jumped out and we abandoned the truck and got everything out as quickly as we could. And next I saw FIRE dropping from the bottom of the truck. My sister and my grandma went up on top of the hill and my grandpa got the rest of the stuff out. I was screaming to the top of my lungs so my grandpa can get out of the area of the truck. There were people at the gas station helping us get stuff out. Then the whole ENGINE WAS ON FIRE!!!!!!!! Then the driver seat and the passenger seat caught on fire . Then the middle where my sister and I were sitting was in flames. The whole truck was on fire. And that's when the firefighter's came and sprayed the truck and put the fire out in 2 minutes. After they put the fire out, there was just some white smoke coming out of the the truck's hood. Then Grandpa, my sister, and I went inside the convenience store and washed our faces and got a drink. After it was all done my Grandpa and Grandma made their own report on a paper. Then my great aunt gave her car to my Grandma. And my Grandma drove me and my sister to our destination and left my Grandpa and aunt at the gas station until my other great aunt would pick them up. From there my Dad would pick my Grandpa up and leave my aunt at her house.

So always come prepared in case an accident happens like the one that we experienced.
