My WoF opinions ~~ Thorn

here I go again...

I have mixed opinions...

I have mostly positive feelings about Thorn. As far as I’ve seen, she’s good to the dragonets she raised, she’s very patient with them, she’s there for them, she’s an incredible queen, supportive of her daughter and Qibli, and overall, she’s probably one of the best parents out of the whole series so far, next to Secretkeeper.

I agree that maybe Thorn shouldn’t have killed him immediately, but honestly, I didn’t feel bad for him. He did lash out at her, and t audience was aware that he was going to rat out the main characters to a blood thirsty queen and he kidnapped Sunny. I also like to think she reacted out of instinct due to that and she regretted it afterwards. In a world fraught with war and suffering, where you need to be careful about members outside your territory and what their goals may be, it’s pretty understandable to react in instinct to someone when they attack you, especially if they’re outsiders galavanting around in YOUR territory.

Here's some of her pros:

I really enjoy Thorn as a character!! I like that she’s a good leader who used organized crime to do good for a society, and I like that she’s angry and curses and takes no **** at all. She’s fiercely loyal and quick on her feet and empathetic and she curses so much she could make a sailor blush

Here's some of her cons:

I think that Thorn told Cobra to give Qibli to her because she could tell that Cobra was an awful parent to him. I haven't read Darkness of Dragons in a while but iirc, she only suggested that after witnessing Cobra's cruel behavior toward Qibli.

When Qibli nearly killed everyone with a sandstorm, thorn merely gave him a slap on the wrist which was not enough imo. Furthermore, having an abused, traumatized dragonet be your advisor/right talon dragon within the scorpion den probably wasn’t the best decision in my eyes.

I wish she had gotten introduced in earlier books so she didn’t come out of nowhere. I haven’t read the first arc in a while, but I believe Thorn wasn’t mentioned til Book 5. I feel like having established her as a “ruthless” leader beforehand who takes no bull and kills to show her authority would have made for a nice plot twist in Book 5.

Imagine this: we see an epilogue of Thorn conversing with the Talons of Peace or something, and she finds out that Sunny is out running around. She orders her gang to begin looking and wants to kill someone that disagrees with her decision, but decides not to.

Then in Book 5 she’s shown to be a good leader who considers all options and did everything possible to get her daughter back. Eh, just spitballing without planning. I feel like Thorn really would’ve benefitted from having a small POV in the form of a prologue or an epilogue beforehand.

It's so weird. I feel like I've lost some connections to this place. I've gotto say I'm glad Cheer, and Z (BlueZswagger, Hope you don't mind that new nickname.) are still here. How have you guys been ? (Everybody can answer that lollll)

I've made a new friend, (We'll call her Elizabeth) and I don't feel awkward around her, and we're really similar. She's a lot like I used to be, and I like that. She's got three, siblings and is the oldest like me.so that was really cool. We live really close !

Speaking of friends, There is this girl, Grace, She's umm nice and funny. I enjoy spending time with her, same with Jules. I really like those people and I would consider them friends, but not in the way me and Elizabeth could be. You know what I mean.

My social anxiety (nervousness lolll) is still there, but the past couple of weeks I've been learning to overcome that.

My last youth group was really awesome . My weird side came out. Okay funny not so funny story that tells you a little bit about my personality: I got picked on my team, and got identified by boots. So stomped to the team captain (He thought I was mad lollll) and hugged him . basically, I was showing of my boots.

this probably won't be significant to y'all, but I am now able to text my old friend. And I feel like we could become really close.

God is constantly changing me, these past couple of weeks I've been focusing on him more. Reading and praying more. I've been growing in Christ a lot. Learning things I've never known before, and seeing things I've always known in a new light. I gotta say I can't wait for heaven.

LIKE A STRING OF HOPE—why was hope indeed such an alarming thing? Did it ponder its thoughts much like the boy did, his lips blood drained and his eyes like the moon, pale crescents in each one that had ever so much light reflecting on each glaring, sinister eye.

And yet, was he forbidden to feel what was supposed to? He was alone, all this long, deliberates in a elevator that had sung music of what seemed to be every so fake—like a sirens wails, a sirens wails for feeling—sad, lost and almost pale, sickly pale for losing hope in the sea. Screaming for someone, beauty defined by the portion of eyes and ears, never the soul in which carries on the weight of ever so many.

The elevators cold alarm. The alarming sound of the floor reaching up to another, and blond locks of hair, blond to white. Blond to a yellow to bleached, bleached contrast with the black suit and suit that was ever so silent. Silent and yet loud. Sad and yet forbidden.

Tears? Tears were a man’s enemy, a seed-like substance that was like rain poured down a soft put tiresome face. Pale, tiresome face that hade purple spots under the eyes that were like a peering diamond. Diamonds? Diamonds like a desire, an experiment, an animal helped into a room of bars and wires. The wires for puncturing the skin of the animal, the fur falls off and it is cold and revealed.

Hair wasn’t in its hopefully place—slicked back, not the way it was supposed to be, not the way that it was. Lips a light pink, chapped with a crimson metallic falling down the mouth, the taste of silver. But not gold. Gold was better then silver. Silver itself tasted like death—gold was a fortune, it was warm, it was beauty. And velvet, which had been the case that was clasped in the man’s hand, the man who was so still. Like a guard, guarding nothing but himself, and soaked in the pain of himself.

Charming man who was alone, had always been alone, tormented by its own thoughts. Almost like a pure ring in the back of his ear—pure. Not any static, not the sound echoing itself in his head, not a make-believe sound. Silent, but the ringing. And more buzzing.

All I know about my mom is that her name was Moon and she loved astrology.She has a telescope from her childhood which we store in the attic.My mom was so nice, she would never yell,no matter how mad she was.And she was almost never mad.

Mom died from an unknown disease.I have a photo of her,with her long auburn hair,her green crystal-like eyes,her sweet smile,she was so beautiful.Almost everyone misses her.Dad misses her.I miss her.

I bet the moon misses her,too.

As Hope arrived at the library, she was overwhelmed by heat. Her frozen tears melted instantly, along with her frozen fear. She warmly smiled, feeling as if she hadn't smiled in months.
The library had several shelves that were toppling the sky with hundreds of thousands of books. And oh, the books! Each book looked its grandest, with the colors of calmness, and the texture as smooth as a scrubbed, wooden floor. Oh, how Hope longed to open up one, to feel the wind as she flipped the miraculous pages, and read the fine-scripted words. The joy she would feel would be astonishing!
"May I help you, dear?" An elderly woman asked, at a desk taller than Hope herself, interrupting her thoughts. The woman had orange hair with white streaks, pulled up in a bun, and purple eyes the color of the England evening. Hope liked her at once.
"Oh! Yes! Um...can you please show me the way to the records section?" Hope timidly asked.
"Take two lefts and then a right, dear," The women replied.
"Thank you, Miss..."
"Name is Lavender. You're welcome..."
"Hope. Hope Lisa," Hope replied and she clomped her black boots down the hall before Miss Lavender could even reply.

Hope was carefully checking the files that started with L, not missing one detail of the mention of her parents.
"Aha!" Hope took out the file and placed it on a nearby table. This is it. The secrets, facts, and myths of the parents I've never knew, Hope thought. Her heart was pounding so hard, Hope thought her eardrums were going to explode, while her clothes stuck to her back, due to her nerve racking sweat. Will I find out why they left me? Or where they have gone?
Hope held her breath and finally opened the file, exhaling and she read the revealing answers of Hope's longing questions.

Hope stared at the paper, dumbfounded. Her eyes didn't dare to even blink while her body was a statue. My parents, Elise and Peter Lisa, were amazing, but mysterious, leaving without a warning, Hope thought. Just like me.
Hope was quite similar to her inexplicable and cunning parents in many ways. She has stolen a pocket full of crumpets from the Private Sister's Lounge at her orphanage, without leaving the slightest trace of crumbs and Hope has also fibbed several lies that the Sisters couldn't even realize she was the one who was guilty. When the young orphan girls were younger, they nicknamed Hope, "Hope the Sneaky Cat."
Quickly, without anyone looking, Hope folded the papers in fourths and tucked it in her bag. This may be useful, she precisely thought.
Suddenly she remembered the unknown source that bought her here in the first place.
"Caught on, haven't you? That didn't take long. Look me up while you're in there."
"Who are you?"
"Mike Ravens. You'll find me there during school hours." Hope recalled the perplexing voice she heard earlier.
Hope swiftly went towards the files that started with 'S' to look for the person's name. Finally, she found a file named 'Stevens, Mike' and plopped it on the table. Well, hope this isn't a waste of time, Hope thought and she began to open the file.

It was dinnertime in the St. Mary Ann's Orphanage. Children were moaning about the hideous oatmeal that was being served, the pots were sizzling with white goop pouring out of the lids, and the chairs were shaking due to to the orphans' ravenous attitudes. All chairs were shaking except for one: Hope Lisa's.
"Miss Lisa, you haven't even touched your bowl of oatmeal yet! Whatever is the matter?" Sister Ann approached, with a stern, frightening appearance.
"I'm not hungry," meek Hope replied, hanging her head.
"Well it's no use for you to linger around here, is there? Go to your room!" Sister Ann yelled, looking like the Devil himself. Hope scrambled away, holding back the explosion of tears. The white goo tastes like cardboard anyway, she thought.

As Hope approached her rickety bed, brushed hair, clean nightgown, and all, she came upon a hurtful sight. The comforter was drenched in sour grape juice and a wrinkled paper was sitting on the wet pillow.

"Roses are red,
violets are blue.
Rotten eggs stink,
so do you!"

Hope read. Her crystal blue eyes welled up with tears as she sat on a wooden chair. The Sisters always scolded have admonished her with painful words while the St. Mary Ann's bullies tortured because of Hope's parents. When she was just a baby, her millionaire parents abandoned her in a dark, forbidding alley, never to be heard from again. Did my parents not love me? Was I a hurtful person in their eyes? Hope thought. And why would they call me Hope in wretched ink?
"Maybe 'cause they hoped they would get rid of you once and for all!" Hope remembered one of the bully's say. Well, I'm determined to find out. Hope fiercely wiped her streaks of tears as she threw on her winter coat and black boots. She tugged on her hat and gloves, and stuffed all of her belongings in a small, red bag. She was a mouse, blending with the dark and terrifying halls as she ran. At last, she made it to two huge grand doors with handles the size of Hope's head. Hope took out a crumpled ball of paper and unfolded it.

Hold your breath for five minutes and try not to explode. That's the pain that I feel in my gut now. My eyes are still puffy and stinging from crying so hard the night before. Head pounding, heart impaled, I walked to the kitchen for breakfast, when suddenly I forget about eating at all. I see a picture of me and my dog when I first got her. She was such a tiny pup! And sadly, she didn't live to grow much larger. Then, I walked over to her bowl and dog bed below the barstool; some blonde hair still freshly laid upon it. I blame bacteria. I blame pain and suffering, and heartbreak, and agony. I blame doctors. And geniuses, who don't seem to do anything from which they're described. I blame Cancer. Suddenly, it all just becomes too much to bear so I turn and run into my room. On the way, my foot is punctured by...by..her golden collar. Her name was engraved in the metal. I touched it with my thumb and ran and jump onto my bed. My parents were already there. They held me closely and patted my back. They comforted me and made me feel safe and comfortable. Later that day, I went outside and buried her favorite chew-toy close to her tiny gravestone in our backyard. I called, "Rest in Peace, Goldie!" Up to the heavens, arms spread wide. For I knew, she was already up there, waiting for me and my family to come play with her someday, and may we return to her; the golden collar.
