every fall, trees lose their leaves

and grow new ones in the spring.

they do this annually,

changing drastically each year.

some trees are evergreens.

they keep their leaves during the winter,

because they don't need to,

because they're strong enough to last all year.

evergreens still change,

but not as drastically.

they still grow, usually more than other trees,

just not in the same way.

-

i see you as an evergreen tree,

while i am a common deciduous.

i change every year,

while you build on what you already have.

since you last saw me, i've grown.

i've shed my leaves,

replaced the old with the new.

up close, i look so different.

but you cant tell.

you haven't seen me up close,

so you cant see my leaves are different,

that i'm not the same as before.

i can tell you i've changed all i want,

but since you haven't seen my abscission,

and you haven't looked up close,

you wont believe me.

i've changed so much since you've gone.

i wish you'd believe me.

A voice from the river winds down

a night sky, stars so bright you can see them through the clouds

Hi guys!

I wanted to show you a poem that I wrote in year/grade 6. It doesn’t have a title but I’m hoping you guys can make one!

It’s time to meet all the flowers

That are in the big big garden with the clocktower.

The garden that is owned by the great, brave colonel,

Who in 1945, was hit by a piece of Shrapnel.

He Survived, but barely,

That's because people rarely,

Are as lucky and rich as him,

To get a doctor who isn't as pessimistic and dim.

There was a big operation,

In the hospital next to the village station.

It was painstaking and long,

But the colonel and the doctors stayed strong.

There was 1 final push,

And then it all happened in a rush,

The colonel was alive and free

And everyone was happy!

But the colonel had to stay put at home,

No going out, they said

he had damaged his bone,

So the colonel decided to take up gardening,

That was way less threatening.

He developed a strong love for thehobby,

And one day he found waiting for him in the lobby

a pack of assorted flower Seeds,

To cover the big big garden, which was covered in weeds.

The colonel began work immediately, very much excited,

And a few weeks later, he was enlightened

By his wife that his flowers had rapidly grew,

And he looked out and his garden looked very much improved!

So this is the description and the story,

Of the colonels garden in its full glory.

So now lets take a deep deep breath,

And read on in full length!

To start, we'll meet the lovely daisies,

Who Always sing their praises.

While the bluebells look aghast,

When the gardener mows the grass.

The tulips droop sadly on their stems,

Like a thread hanging off a hem.

The poppies stand tall and civil,

As if they'd been sculpted from hand and chisel.

The ivy crawls up the old clocktower, It really is a fanciful flower!

But nothing can Surpass the great old daffodil,

Who, in the Sunshine, laughs and sings and trills.

the roses are sensible, having thorns

But their hearts and minds are full of scorn

But the marigolds are Stubborn and haughty,

They always boast, and that's very naughty!

The dahlias and primroses are very kind,

Because they understand if Some of the poem doesn't rhyme!

The magnolias merely moan in the shade,

Ignoring the rest of the flowery crusade.

The hibiscuses and Snowdrops are scattered over the meadow in many numbers,

Trapped all day in an endless slumber.

The jasmine overlook the vibrant scene,

From the Safety of their orchard tree.

The lilies just always feel calm and Serene,

Being the proactive ones of the team.

However, their cousin, the fellow waterlily,

Perched on their lily - pad, seem to act rather silly

The orchids are very lonely and meek,

Thats because they live at the bottom of the creek.

On the contrary, the towering sunflowers constantly have a big ol' grin,

Oh! Just describing their face! How do I begin?

This flower is very Sad for a very Special reason,

Because they feel like they've committed treason.

As people say, "why in tarnation,

Is there such a flower like the carnations?!"

So the benevolent aster, who see this sad scene unfold everyday,

Have Sympathy so they will always say

Anything they can to make them feel better,

But no matter what, the carnations always look under the weather.

Hush now, we must make haste, as we approach the busy bougainvillea plants,

They're So busy, they won't (even if you directly pass them) give you a glance.

Unlike the forget-me-nots, who really live up to their name, Especially, as they're Sporty, so they'll challenge you to a game!

Tick! Tock! Goes the dandelion clock!

They're quite particular about being late. Well, that's kind of their job!

But the peonies never listen, they only do what they want

mostly they just sit and eat croissants!

The hyacinths are really phobic,

They're So Scared, they're even phobophobic!

But the lavenders will constantly take Serious risks,

Like making Baxter the cat steal the Colonel's hard disk!

The foxgloves indulge in Serious charisma,

But strangely enough, their backstory is hidden in enigma

Pansies, just the name makes you want to giggle, Very much like them, too, they do give a good wiggle

The fuchsia, And petunia,

Are very good friends,

Their friendship is So strong, it is guaranteed it will never end.

Now, you must be wondering, what about the honeysuckle over there?

And the chrysanthemum on the windowsill that was a gift from the mayor?

Not to mention the gardenias, cockscombs, geraniums, and their flowery friends,

You don't want this story to end.

Now the sad thing is that it unfortunately must,

But look, I'm really not betraying your trust, I gave you a story, and a good one too,

But fear not, all the other flowery plants will be tickety - boo!

So together lets say one final goodbye,

To the most beautiful things Seen by the naked eye,

We, through tears, say goodbye to them,

But the flowers give a sly grin, knowing we will Soon meet again.

I think this isn’t one of my best poems but I’m mainly looking for feedback from you guys. please take into consideration that I wrote this when I was younger.

Be nice to people you love, be nice to people you hate.

Sometimes its hard, and sometimes its to late.

But, between all the being nice, they act like being yourself is a crime.

Pressure is like having rocks placed on your back.

They weight you down until you fall.

Do people tend to realize?

No.

My friend told me that I had to much belly fat so I sucked in until my stomach hurt and told that part of me to go away.

A boy told me I was ugly so I got my hair done and put on makeup and told that part of me to go away.

A classmate told me I was weird so I listened to Taylor Swift and wore crop tops and bikinis and told that part of me to go away.

They said I had changed, so I looked in the mirror and told myself to come back. But it wouldn't come back. I cried myself to sleep and begged but it wouldn't come back.

Stay up late at night, re-thinking my choices.

Get up early in the morning, to make myself look beautiful.

Get to school, pressure carries.

Get home, tear-stained eyes, from crying.

(This poem is based off of real events of the effect on me when I used to get while I get bullied.)

The saltwater doesn’t help.

I always wondered why humans made their own rules

They made themselves separate from animals like wolves and tigers, and mules

What's the point of elegance and making oneself's rank higher

Wouldn't relationships be more important, and the final survivor?

But I think I've recently figured it out, I believe I've had an epiphany

On why us humans have an innate sense of poise and dignity

That is unique to our own kind, that no other shares, our composure and benignity

Even when it is in one's right to be malignant, to be rational and fair

To rather than lose one's temper and fight, to treat wrongdoers with care

Putting oneself higher than another so that one may not only act, but be superior

Has it's advantages, after all, what gets you farther:

Treating others with mercy and kindness when they do not deserve it

Or treating others with well-earned cruelty, and throwing fits?

Poise, rationality, and the ability to put one's emotions aside

Are what seperate ourselves from the animals outside

Humanity itself is beautiful, and wonderfully cohesive

It's when we forget out foundations, we fall apart without our adhesive

When we lose our morals of respect, kindness, and loving one another

That us humans resort to turning on everyone, community, friends, our own fathers and mothers

And when that happens, as it's been happening now undercover

I truly fear what deep dark corners of the soul we shall discover

Cruelty, unfairness, hatred, narcissism, sadism, and apathy

These are what we turn to when we lose our morals and empathy

Please, for the love of the little light I hope this world still has

Understand my message and look around one another, see and act as

I know you know how to, with equality for all, even those who have mistreated

People make their mistakes, we all do, and we've all been defeated

Forgiveness is necessary, a beautiful thing when true

Forgive your enemies as if they were your friends, even if they may not forgive you

At least you will have tried, at least your heart will heal and you will be better

Because you can heal your heart, and you try to help even your haters

Revenge and forgiveness are your options, one destroys, one heals

Poetry Tips

So I've written some poems before, and I just wanted to share some tips I've found for writing them.

1. Figure out your subject matter first. Personally, I write from emotion, so whatever I feel at the time or whatever is going on in my life, is the topic. Sometimes I start with an idea and it drifts in a different direction, and that's fine, however, I usually go back and change it a little to be consistent with whatever theme is the most prominent.

2. Title goes last. Titles will usually be whatever the poem is about, maybe a reoccurring line, maybe a word or two. Better to pick one once the poem has been formed, since your subject matter may change.

3. Figure out what kind of format you want it to be. Personally, I prefer couplets, which is pretty much rhyming. I use a website called rhymezone when I need help rhyming words, however, it has many uses. There are many different types of poetry to try tho!

4. Develop a rhythm. Once you start writing, try to make sure it flows well. Kinda like a song. I can compare the flow of my poems to something similar to Little Girl by Faith Marie. When you hear the song, you can hear the rhythm she is making, try incorporating that into your poem.

5. Keep the poem relatively the same length. When you have lines going back and forth between short and long, it can look... unprofessional in a way, and amateurish. Keeping lines similar in length can help the form. If you have an onomatopoeia for added effect to something, then it would be appropriate to have a shorter line. Poem lines should seldom be over a complete line. Meaning, when you are writing, the poem line should not be so long it requires two lines. Occasionally, this is unavoidable, but try to avoid it by using commas or separating a compound/complex sentence. If you are rhyming and have to separate the sentence, try rearranging words and switching between active and passive voice.

I recommend ryhmezone.com for word help (rhymes, near rhymes, common uses in songs, definitions, synonyms, antonyms, and more). I also recommend PowerPoetry for help with poetry types and also just sharing your poems somewhere. Accounts are free and you can get scholarships from PowerPoetry, and some help from teachers a mentors as well.

FRESH LIKE THE LEMON SEA—rattled to the point the bird could sing no more, it’s lungs out of hope, it’s heart out of breath in which it had beat no more.

And which it had been apart. Apart from its soulmate in dire need for the bird the set it’s blue winds, to ride the winds, which was a stormy array.

And yet, everything around him would seem like a desert—the berries laid were blood-like, colored and plump, it was everything he had desired for. Mourned for; wished for in every urgent need.

Yet, his lover, a bird whose would fly days to find him, he had to retreat.

Because, a man whose bird needed to lead a family. Yet, whose was not sure if he would make it out of the storm, it was ever too cold.

Oh, how would the bird ever conform his resurgence? He didn’t want to be away from his shining lover, whose songs were draw him back to his nest, that had laid below the berry tree.

Oh, dear me!

Of course, his wings were frozen, a statue they were. His eyes closed shut, and his midnight black beak quivered.

He was indeed perfect dinner.

Why did you have to leave me?

I only have memories to hold onto

They're so tangible, I cover myself with them, like a blanket...

But, with time, the blanket fades

Leaving me shivering in the cold

Objects are memories.

The small gifts you gave me,

a mechanical pencil, a drawing of a dragon

I treasure every conversation

Our interactions locked in my mind, replay like a music box

My thoughts are caged, I can't let people see the roaring lion within

Maybe this is why I cry into my pillow every night

I cared for you more than anyone else, at the time

I stayed when nobody else would

You toyed with my feelings

Tried to change me into the friend you wanted

And like dried clay, when you tried to change my form, I cracked

You cast me away like an unwanted toy

When you realized I was too fragile, that I always needed someone to hold onto

Left my heart shattered in a thousand pieces

With only objects for memories.

My eyes flutter,

I let myself drift into my memories,

Haiku's are poems (?)

Do you think haikus are poetry? I personaly do not. I see poetry as someting that can tell a story in some sort of format, haikus can't tell a story (well, rarely can) in the specific haiku format. I like haikus and all but I don' see how they are poetry.

If you don't know what a haiku is, it is a "form of poetry" where the first sentence has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables, and the third has 5 syllables. Here is an example.

Hello sunny day

Bright sunny blue sky above

Under bright light

(You can see, this really tells no story)

Paradise Poetry will be where we will describe our own paradises. But try your best to foreshadow, or in other words, give clues for what your paradise is. The poem will sound very boring when we just name our paradise and describe it flatly. Here's an example:

Without Foreshadowing:

See what I mean? And if you want to give your reader a little sense of what she's reading about, you can include your paradise in the title, just make sure it sound interesting.
There's no limit to how long your poem is, so write on! Just make sure 1 poem=1 person.

Each pointed with a different personality a speck falls to the ground with many others

Blending in?

Camouflage?

no.

Each delicate

with smooth

curvy lines?

A hard

fine rough

straight shape?

All from a different cloud

working together to make a clean

hilly

sheet.

Seeming as if

one made of one

not

one made of many

But Wrong!

One made of many

Each important

Each different

Each a personality lying in-between

Only one alike

The alike is that all different

The grass was crunching like a giant stomping on a can

What's that sound?

Cloud white fur was following it

Whose white fur?

It is a knife with carrots

Who is this proffesional nibbler?

The eyes are a night sky

The body was a marshmallow

The nose twitched quickly

The feet are bedsprings making it fly

Who has a body that's as soft as a feather?

The eyes that are dark choclate

The nose that twitches

The feet that jumps

And a fast nibbler?

It's a bunny that you can snuggle up with

That helps you dream

The calmmest dreams

The happiest ones.
