Shark Bait ch9 (yayy)

Okay. Lia, don't freak out! I've been telling myself this for the past 20 minutes. "Lia! Where did it go?" Natali asked, paralyzed in awestruck fear. "Natali, relax. Just paddle backwards slowlyyyyy," I called, already nearly a foot behind her. "Hey, slow down!" I smiled slyly. "Payback," I barreled over the sets, centimeters away from the sandy shores of the Malibu beach, when Natali let out another shrilling screech.

I swung my head around, to see her paddling ferociously away from the shark, chasing her to shore. I hopped out of the water, and grabbed her wrist, feeling an overwhelming sense of strength given off from (don't laugh) the water. Hey! I told you not to laugh!! It just felt that way, alright?

I can't explain it. I can't explain any of this..first it was me...now Natali. After Natali was successfully laying on her back next to my ankles, I peered out to the crystal blue oceans once more.

Swimming off, the creature left a trail of pearly sea foam behind its pectoral fins. Another minute passed, and I heard my dad call me up to the house. "Bye Natali!" I called, watching her wave back; getting smaller and smaller.

What a strange day, I thought to myself as I propped up my board in the garage. "Hey, hon. How was your surf? I thought I heard screaming," my dad asked, confusedly. "Oh, great. We were just um..having a lot of fun. The waves were huge this afternoon.." He nodded as he smiled.

I trotted up the stairs and cut the elastic band out of my hair with scissors from my desk. The matted, blonde mess expanded all the way down to my waist. I threw on a t-shirt and shorts from the footboard of my bed. I flopped down onto my pillows, eyes slamming shut. Sigh. Just can't wait for tomorrow....

TO BE CONTINUED! :p

Chapter Eight: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/13405/shark-bait-ch8-wow-these-are-going-by-fast?show=13405#q13405

Next Chapter: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/15080/shark-bait-ch10?show=15080#q15080

Shark Bait ch8 (wow these are going by fast)

"Where did it go?" I asked, but Natali was too frozen in fear to respond. "I...I don't know, but we need to get to shore--fast!" she screamed, bolting towards the shore. "Hey!? You're just gunna leave me here?! What about what happened last time you did that?" I asked, hurt.

"Right...sorry..." Natali called, stopping so that I could catchup to her. "Ya know, about that..I'm really sorry about what I did that day..I was just so--" "Fearstruck?" I asked. "Yeah..I guess you could say that! We're cool though, right?" Natali asked, patiently waiting for my response.

I smiled. "Yes! Now let's getto shore maybe before like we get eaten!" Her eyes dialated. "Oh. my. gosh." My eyebrows raised. "What? What's wrong?!" "We gotta get there--soon! Wherever that thing went; it can't be far behind..." I nodded, as we raced to shore as quick as the speed of sound.

The sun set gorgeously on the crystal blue shores in Malibu. Every time I went twilight surfing I always used to think about how peaceful it looks up there. But that wasn't important right now.

I had to focus at getting back to shore before that thing caught up to us. I had to stay alive before the Annual Malibu, California Surfing Competition, or who was I as a surfer? "So," Natali began, seeing the worried look on my face as we ran up the beach and collapsed. "How are you feeling about the comp. this year?" I shrugged.

"I don't really know. You gotta get a pretty big wave in order to get a shot at winning," I noted, reflecting back on last year's fail. Natali shook her head. "No way. Doesn't matter what size wave you get. I know you'll nail that thing!" I smiled.

"But what if all I get are sets? You can't surf those; they don't even break!" I started hyperventilating after I recognized my discovery. "You'll be fine, girl! Chill! You've been surfing since Kindergarten!" I saw she was trying to reassure me, but it wasn't working. "It's in three days, and I'm going to surf two of them and rest the third. I just need to borrow our stress packet of chamomile tea and pillows before I start," Natali laughed.

"You'll be fine! Just...breathe!" I sighed. These were going to be a long three days.

TO BE CONTINUED!! :D

Chapter Seven: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/13124/shark-bait-ch7-finally-here?show=13124#q13124

Shark Bait ch7 finally here

The fin was cutting in a familiar manner that I KNEW, would scare even
the toughest of souls. Natali was all out of wack. The Velcro safety
strap hung loosely around my ankle.

Confusion circulated in my head more than fear. It was THAT DAY all over again. I felt bloated. And sweaty. And it was to the point
that I didn't know what I was going to do with myself.

WAS I crazy? Or was I just STUPID? These thoughts consumed me from
the inside out as I pondered on what to do next. "Umm..we come in
peace!" I blurted out, half-expecting for a response. "Why are you
talking to a shark, Lia?! That thing could kill you!" Natali screeched,
staring and slowly advancing backwards on her board.

"Yeah, Gnat. It could've /also/ killed me that day, too. But ya know
what? /It didn't/. I think this thing has some unfinished business with
me and I wanna figure out why." I said bravely, paddling closer to the
aquatic beast. "It's just too /risky/, Lia!" Natali cried, tugging on my arm.

"Besides; you don't think it actually knows, who you are, and what
its business with you is. Do you?" I stared at the paralyzing creature,
puzzled with the situation.

"Well what am I supposed to do here, Natali?" I asked, genuinely
confused. How, am I just going to leave this situation at this rate? I
was /just /getting over it, and now it's blowing up in my face once
again!" "Lia, I feel you. I don't understand any of this either, but
it's getting late. We have to get ho--," she

cut off. "What's wrong?" I asked. I followed her gaze into the water
where the shark used to be. "It's...gone."

TO BE CONTINUED

Chapter Six: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/12478/shark-bait-ch6?show=12478#q12478

Next Chapter: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/13405/shark-bait-ch8-wow-these-are-going-by-fast?show=13405#q13405

SHARK BAIT CH6

There's got to be a reason for this thing. "What are the odds that a shark just, randomly lets you ride its back all the way to shore after being injured on a reef? What predatory animal wouldn't smell the blood floating in the water and join in on the feeding frenzy?" I ranted to Natali the next morning. She sat there, staring into space.

"Well? Natali? What've you taken from this entire conversation this morning?" She retracted out of her daze like a glitch robotic arm. "Huh...sorry! I'm totally listening! I wasn't sleeping with my eyes open or anything!" I smiled.

"Nice save," "It's not that you're boring, Lia, it's just that your topics are getting boring. Don't-take that the wrong way." I rolled my eyes.

"Trust me, Nat. If it happened to YOU, then you would understand it." I replied reassuringly. She shook her head. "No, Lia...no I wouldn't..." She trailed off, closing the door behind her as she left.

"Uggghhhh!" I groaned. "I gotta get this thing figured out! I can't wait another minute!" I glued my eyes to the computer screen for the rest of that Saturday morning, not realizing that I'd been zoning out into my research again much like yesterday.

I grabbed a notepad from my desk and began jotting down some information from my research, like every good scientist does.

DO SHARKS NORMALLY SAVE PEOPLE? NO.

IS IT LIKELY THAT THEY WOULD? ALSO NO.

HOW MANY TIMES AM I GONNA MAKE A LIST OF RANDOM THINGS I ALREADY KNOW? THAT PART IS STILL UNDETECTED...

So, my research didn't really work out as I imagined, but let's put the idea of killing people through trees aside, and focus on the cold, hard, facts. Beep! Beep! My phone started ringing at the WORST time ever. I sighed as I shook my phone out of my pillowcase.

I had text messages from all this morning coming in from Natali after she left with her dramatic exit.

lia I wanted to aplgize 4 the thing this morng. outa line, check :(

It is SO hard to decipher her messages. Honestly, I really doubt that this girl knows when to stop. But hey, I guess she's the best friend I'll ever have.

Zzzzzz.....Beep! Beep! Beep! Beep! Phone rings again, and this time in the middle of my nap. "Hello?" I asked, half asleep. "Hey, Lia..I just wanted to say I'm sorry about this morning. Wanna catch some waves?"

I sighed. "I mean, I guess I could use a break from my research," I replied. Moments later, we were trudging through the sand like we used to, before the shark thing speculated. "I'm glad you're finally trying to get this stuff out of your head," Natali said, as we ran into the water. "Me too," I replied, staring into the crystal waters before us.

My stomach grew tight, as I passed over a set with Natali, a familiar triangular shape surfaced above the water, which sent Natali screaming. I just sat there, frozen in shock.

TO BE CONTINUED.

Chapter Five: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/11354/shark-bait-ch5?show=11354#q11354

Next Chapter: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/13124/shark-bait-ch7-finally-here?show=13124#q13124

SHARK BAIT CH 3

Search: Selachimorphas

I couldn't find one single thing about human/shark symbiosis. Nothing. "Hmm..maybe what happened to me was just some sort of freak accident..worst case scenario, the shark actually did hurt me, and I was hallucinating or something, like what Natali insisted.

Suddenly, there was a knock on my door. "Dad, I told you. I'm not going back out there until I'm sure of what I saw yesterday." I called under the door, thinking my father was the knocker. "Actually, it's me," said a more feminine voice, the door cracking open slightly.

"Oh, hey Natali." I droned, still scrolling my mouse down the computer screen, in search of proof and evidence. "Are you really still stuck on that shark thing again?" Natali asked, a faint grin in her cheeks. But when she saw that I wasn't laughing, her expression faded, much like mine. "You don't understand," I replied, turning from the computer screen.

"you don't know what it's like to..have something as shocking and incredible happen in your life before," I receited like a Nature Valley granola bar commercial on TV. "Well, maybe I don't. But Lia I'm still going to be here for you. We're the California girls!" Natali exclaimed enthusiastically. "Maybe," I said, turning back to the screen. "But I wanna find out what that shark has to say..."

Natali left later that day to go hit the 20 footers before they dropped. She insisted I come with her, but, she understood that I was still a bit shaken as to what had happenwd the day before. That shark is costing me my surfing reputation, and I'm gonna figure out why.

TO BE CONTINUED:

SHARK BAIT CH2 (FINALLY)

I didn't know what to think. My stomach cramped and twisted inside of me. A few seconds later Natali's eyes drifted toward the zig-zagging shape, her face growing pale with uncertainty.

"Lia! Paddle; fast!" she called, already ziplining towards the shore. Without me. I stared back at her, and then I sunk underwater, having almost being drowned by a humungo-wave, then the shark dove under, noticing that my head was bleeding. Or so I thought..I blacked out shortly afterward but the main thing that I remember was being on top of the shark's back, torpedoing towards the seashore, my board clutching my ankle tightly. Natali saw me unconcious in a tidepool, and as I awoke, I saw the shark slowly swimming deeper and further away from us. I got up searching for it but then fell back down into the sands, which were being moved by the tides. Natali clung to my arm. "Blood," she said. "What?!" I asked, shocked. "You're bleeding. Did the shark hurt you?" I shook my head. "No; it helped me. It drove me u ptocthe shore. I cut myself on the reef, and I rode it back to shore..." I replied, staring back into the ocean. "That's ridiculous. I think you're hallucinating, Lia." said Natali, logically. "Yeah, Natali. Say what you want. But I know, what I saw. Because last time I checked, I was the one out there, while my best friend raced upto shore without me," She frowned. I detached my board strap from my ankle and ran up to my house, my surfboard held tightly under my arm. "Lia!" Natali called, but she was no match for my speed. The sun set easily across the horizon, and the first thing that I did when I got home was research more on sharks. I want to know what really happened out there....

TO BE CONTINUED:

SHARK BAIT CHAPTER 1

My favorite surfer has ALWAYS been Bethany Hamilton. She powered through her life even when things got tough. After she lost her arm, she learned to adapt to her new life.

"In conclusion to my report, I Just want to thank Bethany Hamilton for continuing her dream, and living under God, no matter what happened. Thank you," I finished. "Thank you, Ms. Sumner. You may sit down now," requested the teacher. Just before I managed to scoot into my seat, the bell rang. "SCHOOLS OUT!!! SUMMER VACATION!!!" Screamed my friend Natali. Oh, boy. Well, who cares?! I mean, school's out now so technically, she can do whatever she wants right now. "N-na-nat-nata-Natal-Natali!!" I stuttered as I shoved my way through the crowd. When I finally broke through the crowd, I caught up with Natali. "I can't wait to hit those twenty foot waves!" I called to her. "Ugh, I know. Let's head down there after school." She replied.

Hours later..........…………

"Hey!" Natali called. "Hi. I may just get a head start while you polish your board," I said. Natali shook her head. "It's too dangerous to surf alone. And in this turf? No way." Seconds later, we were floating, balancing on our boards, and gaining sick air. We floated on our bellies like barrels. And then, when me and Natali were chatting about who knows what, I saw it; a gray obtuse triangle floating, cutting clear through the oncoming sets: A shark.

Chapter Two: http://www.kidzsearch.com/questions/8750/shark-bait-ch2-finally?show=8750#q8750
