K-POP ALBUM REVIEWS Ep4 - Chaotic & Confused (August 11, 2025)

I'm doing a five-song album because I JUST DID A 13-SONG ONE!! #tired...

Escapade- I just like it so much! According to, *ehem..* the internet, it's a post-punk and synthwave song which I really like. It was, on first listen, my favourite song on the album. 10/10!!! HONESTLY A BANGER!

EXTRA- This was the pre-release and I love it! The sound is so good, the beat too. 9.5/10.

Chaotic & Confused- At first I didn't like the chaotic part in the prechorus but 1) I love Mixxpop and that's literally what Mixxpop is, 2) the album and this song literally has 'Chaotic' in it, so what was I expecting? I guess it's a song about exploring a city. I like that. The last chorus is really good! 9/10.

Closer- I'm used to the title tracks being #1 or #2 on the album, but this is #4. Attitude by Ive is the second-last, #5, but let's get to the song. It's really electro-y, and I really like the choruses and post-choruses! There, the beat is very electro-y. The atmosphere is a club..yeah, a club. A wild nightclub! 8.5/10.

Delu- I immediately know this would be one of my favourites, and it currently is. Number two, after Escapade. The sound is so good! The lyrics are also very funny (to me). It's about telling someone he's delusional for thinking she'll stay with him, with phrases such as "you a big guy, with a small heart" and "I'm sick of chasers". The bridge and high note at the end of the bridge are really good! 10/10!

Personal thoughts- This album came out at the middle of holiday for me, so I had plenty of time to enjoy it, and enjoy it I DID! Amazing album!

Also, I'm just realizing the rating goes progressively lower from the start until we get to Delu, where it shoots back up to 10. Funny!

Overall rating- 9.40/10 (94.0%)

JEON SOMI(전소미) - 'CLOSER' M/V

Here are my thoughts on it:

1. The MV: I liked it. Exactly the vibe given of in the teasers. This dark, gray aesthetic suits her more than I thought!

2. The song: Okay, this is a mixed bag. I'll start with the things I didn't like.

- The delay from the prechorus to the chorus. Around 0:56 to 0:58. I honestly wish that never existed. I expected "Call me a BEAUUUUUUUU-" but instead there was a delay. It feels underwhelming.

- The length. Again, the pandemic of short songs in K-pop is still in full swing, with Closer being another addition at 2:40. That's longer than SOME releases this year though (looking at you JYP) but it doesn't HAVE A BRIDGE!!! WE NEED MORE BRIDGES IN K-POP!!

The things I liked about the song:

- Visuals. This is obviously a given. You can't deny Somi's visuals.

- The instrumental!!!! This is SO GOOD, especially in the chorus. And the built-up tension in the verses and prechoruses would have made the chorus sound that much better, IF IT WASN'T FOR THE DELAY!!! But starting from the second chorus to the end, I have no problems with it.

- Vocals. Again, obviously a given but I'm not sure how she'll sing this live because of the modified voice in the chorus. Status: anticipating.

But I feel like I have to talk about the instrumental again. As one YouTube user said, I thought Somi had found her sound when Extra was released but EDM suits her too good!!!!!!

Initially, I gave the song (not the MV) a 7.5/10 after the first listen but as of the second it's somewhere between 8 and 8.5 and will almost definitely rise higher.
