Did you know Frankenstein was born out of a story club of sorts (‘•.•’)?

In the summer of 1816, running from the judgmental english society of back then an 18 yo Mary Shelley (then Mary Godwin), was hanging out near Lake Geneva, Switzerland, with her situationship Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, and John Polidori.

Because of a massive volcanic eruption at Mount Tambora, the weather was straight up rain and freezing cold. The whole squad was trapped indoors and suffering from terminal boredom.

To fix the aura, they started reading German ghost stories, which prompted Lord Byron to challenge everyone to a spooky story cook off.

For days, Mary was suffering a total writer's block but after a late night yap session between Byron and Percy about using literal electricity to make dead things move, Mary had a vivid nightmare:

"I saw the pale student of unhallowed arts kneeling beside the thing he had put together. I saw the hideous phantasm of a man stretched out, and then, on the working of some powerful engine, show signs of life…"

She woke up realizing she had cooked. The very next day, she began writing what was supposed to be a short story, not only she won the cook-off but her partner and the other participants encouraged her to keep expanding it for the next two yeers into the mega hit novel Frankenstein.

The Story Club as see in Anne of the green gables:

Each girl would write one story during the week. Then, they came together once a week to read stories they had written. Every member wrote stories under their pseudonym.

No boys were allowed in their club and it faded away as they grew older and married.

Which is why I want to make it timeless, a dynamic that goes on and on even if I no longer here. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁

And allow boys! and pretty much anyone who wants to be part of it’s history

We also are welcome to post well meaning feedback and help each other improve as a writer

So by posting a story in this club, you are open to feedback by other timeless participants

My hope is that this becomes the breeding ground for a new generation of future writers (⸝⸝ᵕᴗᵕ⸝⸝)

Welcome ladies and gentlemen, to the Storycathon! You have to write a story about anything you want! Here are the rules:

Story length: 2-4 paragraphs

Due date: June 25th

How many characters in the story: 2+

How to turn in your story: Write it on paper first. Type the story you made on paper.

Hello! I started writing a short story that I would like to make a series. I am putting the prolouge to the story down below, so please enjoy!

Sofia

The Prolouge

The sound of firing bounced around the side of the alley at the side of the house. The sky was gray, rain coming down like the bullets that were being shot around the city. The Belovs raced out of the other side of the house, and darted down the cobblestone road. They had merely themselves and a blanket to get themselves out of the border of the city that was 17 miles away. A soldier in the alley looked up and saw them running. He chased after them, the rain coming down harder down, drenching the soldier’s suit. The Belovs made a sharp turn right, and tumbled over a fence, into the bleak country. The soldier ran the opposite direction, and the Belovs continued through the tall grass that was the tall grass that they would be walking in for days. They huddled together and started their journey to the edge of the city.

It was two days later when they saw the next soldier. He was pacing around a carriage full of hay. The family hid behind a cobblestone wall. The girl sighed of relief, and the soldier perked up. The girl gasped, and the soldier came over to the wall. He peered down at the family, and took the parents by the neck of their coats. The girl crawled away, and hid in a tall, overgrown bush. She trembled with fear as the soldier scanned the area for her. She looked back at the carriage as it pulled away.

The girl made it out of the city 7 days later, hiding in forests and bins. She hadn’t been to the town that she found when she reached the edge of the city. An old woman with skin like biscuit dough found her shivering on the side of a road, and hid her in her house. After many weeks there, the old woman was killed, and the girl traveled the country, looking for family. The girl’s name was Sofia, and it would be a long time until she found them.

Hey guys! I’m making a short story contest.

Topic: Fantasy/Adventure

Rules: Nothing too gory, no mature themes, no cussing, and basically follow the KS rules.

Due date: December 20^th, 2019, although I may start judging earlier, depending on how many entries I get.

What to do: 1. Write a short story, usually 1-3 pages long. It must all fit in one post.

So, it has been awhile since I have done this!

Basically, rules are, I would normally give a new topic each Monday, you would have until Friday to finish a short story and LINK IT TO THIS POST BY EITHER TYPING THE STORY IN AN ANSWER OR MAKING A POST AND GIVING ME THE LINK. Similar rules now, but I will give a theme or a starter sentence, and I will post it on Sunday, you will have until Friday so I can give the results Friday night or Saturday. As for giving me the link to the story, you either type the story in an answer or comment to the weekly post, or write it in a separate post and copy and paste the link into a comment or answer, YOU MUST DO THIS OR ELSE YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. I want to be able to keep the stories in one place, instead of searching all over KT, which I might not read the story cause I cannot find it. Also, please make it one post/answer/comment, no chapters, just one short story, if it is multiple posts/answers/comments it will also be disqualified. Those are my rules, along with keeping it PG.

ONE-TIME Poem Contest

I am doing a poetry contest, since my other writing contest got discontinued because I 100% forgot about it, this is only a one time contest. The time limit is till next Monday, so that gives people a week to come up with a poem (any poems that are made later won't count). You may enter a poem into the contest by either making it in the comments/answers or making a post and putting the link into the comments/answers (I mean it, i have gotten people for my writing contest just make the post with "for luna's contest" in the title but never comment it, it would be great help to me if you would put the link in the answers/coments). No specific theme, it can be about anything you want. For the style, I would prefer a more common style like acrostic, repetition, or just rhyme (there will be examples of each of those at the bottom of the post) but it can be any style, please list the style you choose to the poem, if you don't know, powerpoetry.org has many poetry style definitions, just pick the one that sounds most like yours.

This is an example of an acrostic poem, made by an acrostic poem generator (any use of acrostic poem generators will not be allowed in the contest, only in this example, if I find out someone is using a generator their poem will not count.)

This is an example of a rhyming poem (duh), this poem was made by Wendy Clay on familyfriendspoems .com called "War of The Words".

Our English language? A curious thing!

You can't have the willie, the heebee or jitter,
