There are a few candidates for the GOAT.
Tom Brady.
Joe Montana.
Patrick Mahomes.
Drew Brees.
Peyton Manning.
But, I’m going to try to end the debate.
Let’s start.
+++++
Career stats rank like this (1 is highest numbers, 5 is lowest numbers):
#1: Tom Brady: 89,000 Yards, 649 Touchdowns, in league 23 seasons, played 21 (this is not counting the 2008 season where he got injured first game or his first season where he threw only 3 passes).
#2: Drew Brees: 80,000 Yards, 571 Touchdowns, in league 20 seasons, played 19 (not counting his first season where he threw only 27 passes).
#3: Peyton Manning: 71,000 Yards, 539 Touchdowns, in league 18 seasons, played 17 (not including 2011 season where he didn’t play due to a neck injury).
#4: Joe Montana: 40,000 Yards, 273 Touchdowns, in league 16 seasons, played 15 (not including 1991 season where he did not play due to an elbow injury).
#5: Patrick Mahomes: 28,000 Yards, 219 Touchdowns, in league 7 seasons, played 6 (not including his first season when he threw only 35 passes).
Okay, the reason why Mahomes is so low is because he’s still young.
He has the lowest number of yards and TDs out of everyone listed, but he’s only been in the league for 7 seasons, playing in only 6.
However, he easily takes the cake in “best start to a career”.
He passed for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in only his second season, winning MVP.
Let’s move on to super bowl rings.
