Today is May 17th, or Norwegian constitution day. Today is NOT Norwegian Indepenedence day. Today, on 1814, Norway signed it's constitution and united with Sweden (and formed this cursed union )

I dont have school today because we had a tornado warning, but my gut tells me it's due to May 17th. Problem is I don't live in Norway or a Norwegian-American community

I spent 3 hours yesterday making a 17 Mai drawing, and here it is. Im wearing the Bunad I own IRL, and Nihara was wearing a Hardanger Bunad (the most common Bunad) it was tricky to draw Nihara because I have never seen a girl who wears a hijab with a Bunad, so ye

To all my Norwegian and Norwegian-American sisters and brothers and siblings, I hope your 17 Mai is fantastic. Wear your Bunad, Eat lots of Ice Cream and dance all day long.

Well there is Norwegianfication

but that word's origins is DARK.

That basically meant when the Norwegian government in World War 2 (which was also under no-no germany) made Sámi culture and language illegal and "converted" Sámi people to be similar to Ethnic Norwegians.

Happy May 17! I love my Norwegian sisters and brothers! I don't celebrate May 17 because I'm Finnish-American, but I love Norway and all the Nordic countries
