The school I’m transferring to in January has the usual rules—tank tops have to be at least three fingers wide, shorts have to reach your fingertips, and hats aren’t allowed at all. I get that some of these rules make sense, but the hat one just doesn't.
They say hats aren’t allowed because of political messaging or because students might wear something inappropriate, basically turning their heads into “walking billboards.” But like… shirts can have the same kind of messages, and those are way more noticeable. So what’s the real difference? If the concern is about what’s printed on them, then just ban certain messages, not the whole idea of wearing hats.
I feel like dress codes should focus on keeping things respectful and appropriate, not on small stuff that doesn’t really matter. Hats don’t distract anyone, and for a lot of people, they’re just part of their style or comfort.
What do you guys think? Does your school have a strict dress code, or do you wear uniforms? And do you think the hat rule is fair or just unnecessary?
