So if you go through trauma repeatedly when you’re a kid (a kid as in under 10) your brain may split your personality to make it easier to cope with

So then sometimes it just becomes your brains automatic coping mechanism to split your personality when you go through something stressful again

It might also add amnesia inbetween (theres probably a reason but I can’t remember rn)

There’s also endognic systems but I don’t have the mental energy to explain that all

In my experience a lot of stuff happened when I was younger that basically made my brain go “NOPE CANT DO THIS NEED SOMEONE TO HELP” when there wasnt help available which kinda went “no help ok then *creates help using pieces of existing personality* see all good”

And then I didn’t realise for like a year that having people living in your head that use your body sometimes wasnt normal

(When I did realise I thought I was schizo or sumt because I didn’t know anything about plurality at the time other than “multiple personalities”)

Systems (the name for the personalities in one body) can get really big so keep that in mind before fakeclaiming a plural for having a lot of alters/headmates/whatev you wanna call them

Into the slang part of the community we go!

Theres a buncha terms that plurals use relatively often:

Host - Personality that fronts the most

Alter - Short for alternate personality, also called headmate, sysmate, whatever you wanna call it basically

Core - the original personality

Fronting - when an alter/personality takes control of the body

Switching - When an alter stops fronting and lets a different alter front

Co-con/co-fronting - when an alter is partially fronting with someone else fully fronting/ 2 alters being consicious at the same time

Ageslider - An alter thats age changes

Traumagenic - a system caused by trauma

Endognic - a system not caused by trauma. (Not D.I.D/OSDD though)(Not always Willogenic)

Innerworld - basically a place where alters go when not fronting. (Not all systems have these btw)

Fakeclaim - claiming a system is fake for any reason.

Willogenic - a system that was purposefully created

Tulpa/tulpamancy - creating a headmate. Also sometimes known as forcing. A headmate created through tulpamancy is called a tulpa, a person who creates a tulpa is a tulpamancer.

I think that’s most(?) of the terms but then again my memory sucks

Here’s some of the role names or whatever you call them

Protector - an alter whose role is to protect members of the system from internal or external harm

Host - I explained this one earlier

Little - An alter who’s (I think) 2-8(?)

Middle - An alter who is 9-12

Non-human - exactly what it sounds like. An alter that is not human. (Robot, Angel, demon, etc)

trauma holder - Alter that holds traumatic memories. Trauma can be replaced with other words, similar meaning. (hallucination holder, etc etc)

Persecutor - i can’t really explain this well on here, basically an alter whose role causes harm internally (to the system) or externally (to other people).

Fictive - not really a role but I’ll put it here anyway. An alter who is a fictional character. Kind of like fictionkin but a personality.

Factive - also not rlly a role but adding it too. An alter that is a real person. Might be someone who helped you during trauma that’s no longer in your life.

OCtive - The past 2 definitions but with an OC.

I think I got most of the common terms? But I’m not sure.

Thank you for your time.

um so I think I might be an enogendic system. I've got like I think 4 alters.....

3 that are just like sane people and one that is my Virgo Neptune personified *shudders*

they have names and personalities maybe even appearances? there's lavender, shes like sweet quiet kinda self conscious hates attention low self esteem social but she only started being there a few years ago

october is like kinda edgy and rebellious but also responsible....extremely short tempered. might be responsible for the 'lavender beef' incident.

amethyst's kind of in charge rn. shes silly, theatrical, loves being on a stage. has plans to take over the world. a complete hopeless romantic.

theyre all kinda one person but like different ppl its hard to explain but its different than being multifaceted. I've always known I was like this but I never knew the word for it. I speak in literal different voices depending on which one is fronting  (am I using that correctly?)

and I've been wondering if I was plural

do u think I am? I've been meaning 2 ask a plural user on here 4 advice.

My question is how is this such a common thing on kt when most disorders and religions relating to it are incredibly rare??
by 🌀 Sorcerer (48.3k points)
It’s not common really, there’s only 3-4 active systems.

Also, people from everywhere use the internet, it’s the same reason why so many Therians are on here.

Also, respectfully, please stop interacting with our posts.

You've clearly done some research! I'm sorry you had to experience some traumatic events. There is clearly more to it and a lot we don't entirely know or understand. MPD (multiple personality disorder) is something not many know about because it gets lumped with bipolar disorder or merely going crazy lol

In ancient Greece they would just attempt to exorcise all the alters from the host, while that approach is dated I find it sus that some non human alters are literal demon.

Sometimes alters can come and help us cope trough trauma but they aren't really us and is important to have places for auto reference

I would say try not to make this condition your whole identity and find an spiritual anchor that works for you, spiritually someone with strong plurality is more vulnerable than the average person.

And finally since you are posting this for public view don't become surprised if people take long to grasp it all or refuse to understand it (。>﹏<)

The important thing is for you to be accepted and respected not for all of us to understand and incorporate your approach

And sorry if it did come as rude I hope you can appreciate the honesty and intent (づ˶˃⤙˂˶)づ

How do people "Willogenic"

Bold of you to assume I know

its real simple

You go inside your headspace, beyond the houses and wonderlands, into the mental fog,  scream at it, then visualize who you WANT to be, steal pieces from those memories, and then scream at it again until there is a faint wisp of a person, then run real fast thru ur mind, dragging that wisp behind you, into your main headspace, and then chances are you will either have lost the wisp or it turns into a person. If you put enough will into it it heightens the chance of the wisp solidifying

seeeee isnt that simple

(theres probably a more healthy way to do it but thats lins origin story, how fun)

We like to call the OC headmates “fictional introjects” (because they came from a fictional source, but one of us made them—therefore they exist in our world. If that makes sense)

Ive actually never heard of factive! It sounds very similar to an introject (a headmate that formed from someone IRL(could a be a celeb or just a person you saw) I wonder what the difference is between them, or if they are the same thing but with two names :3

Another word for innerworld is headspace! The unnamed subsys sort of has one(it’s hard to explain), but the main system doesn’t.

Also I like how you explained prosecutor role. Almost no one in our system has been able to explain in properly (exept for the prosecutors, lol)

I think introject is a broad term for a headmate with a set personality, not sure tho
