Description

I talk to Hannah Fry and compare our mathematical investigations into playing Monopoly. I’ve put all my probabilities below.

You can buy a signed copy of Hannah's book on Maths Gear:
https://mathsgear.co.uk/collections/books/products/signed-copy-of-the-indisputable-existence-of-santa-claus

In the UK you can also get it from Waterstones:
https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-indisputable-existence-of-santa-claus/dr-hannah-fry/dr-hannah-fry/9780857524607

There is a Kindle edition on Amazon:

You can download all of my monopoly code here:

Here are Hannah’s plots:

CORRECTIONS:
- I said the game has “finite money” but Chuck Monster has correctly pointed out that the official Monopoly rules state "It [the bank] never runs out of money; if it runs out of bills, players can use any convenient items as substitutes until the bank gets enough money."

  • mct89 Added What's interesting is that while you agree with just about all of the property landing rankings, you disagree on two properties.

One is the Light Blues (using US names) Matt starts with Oriental Ave., Vermont Ave, then Connecticut Ave whereas Hannah ranks Vermont, Connecticut, then Oriental. Out of 12 charts I have found on-line/in strategy books, 10 agree with Hannah.

Secondly, Hannah ranks the RRs as Pennsylvania, B&O, Short Line, and Reading, whereas Matt ranks them as B&O, Reading, Penn, and Short Line. Again, on-line/in strategy books I have found 9 agree with Matt.

Any comments from Matt or Hannah?
