Hey guys its me, Carly.
im going to IKEA today with my dad
yes im going to silly goofy swedish store!!!!!!
Well, I am gonna talk about something really weird because I can
The children's section... Småland.
Now, For those who live in an IKEAless area (sending prayers btw) Småland is like a childcare in which you drop your kids in (they have to be from 3 to 10 years old) and theres like a ball pit and slides and other fun things for kids and once youre done shopping you can pick up your kids.
BUT. WHY. SMÅLAND
Småland (We're no longer talking about IKEA småland) is a state in Sweden. Småland littearly translates to "Small Country" in Swedish. Which is true, Småland is a tiny country (except is a state and not a country)
It's also really goofy how they chose Småland... in Nordic history, Småland was once a really bad place to live in (today it is actually a pretty good place to live in) . A lot of Danish-Swedish battles were set in Småland, during the time of the Norway-Sweden Union, Smålanders who were in Poverty were under oppresion and a lot of other things. I mean, kids wouldn’t known because unless to you’re a Scandinavian/Scandinavian-American and your parents made you study Nordic history before you even get to 1st grade. I’m a teen and Im pointing this out anyways.
So in other words, Making a children’s area and literally naming it after one of the most dangerous places in Nordic history isn’t a good idea. If I worked at IKEA I will name it something like barnsvärld (Children’s world) or something like that.
bye.
