posting this in my blog as engagement bait anyway time to rant
"ye olde"
youll see that phrase on like stores and stuff trying to be old and medieval
ITS NOT. PRONOUNCED "YEE OLD"
IT IS PRONOUNCED "THE OLD"
allow me to elaborate
the "th" sound in (i think) old english was produced by a specific letter called thorn.
þis is thorn (th on thorn intentionally written as th)
when typing became a þing, thorn just
wasnt a letter þey could type
þey had blocks for all the letters save for thorn
so people substituted thorn for y (because they kinda looked alike in the fonts they used)
so þat (that) became yat (albeit slightly different, wont get into that)(pun intended)
and þe became ye
SO
in conclusion, if you pronounce it "ye olde" you are wrong and i am coming for you
if you pronounce it "the olde" you are correct and get a pat on the back
