Not only does blood carry out many important functions for our survival, it can also give us clues about diseases that might help us survive even longer.

Take a moment to really think about all the blood in your body: All the blood in your heart, all the blood in your arteries, your veins, and all your smaller blood vessels.

Thats a lot of blood, 5 whole liters, in fact.

Made up of white blood cells (leukocytes), red blood cells (erythrocytes), plasma, platelets (thrombocytes), and more, blood is incredibly valuable to our physiology and existence as humans.

Your blood is a diverse and multi-faceted substance that in addition to delivering oxygen to the rest of your body, removing toxins, and regulating body temperature, also holds clues to diseases that affect more than just your blood.

Find out more about what makes blood...blood in this episode of Human. And keep an eye out for next weeks episode where well take a deep dive into blood types.
