So yeahIt's been a while. I'm sorry for not uploading so much. Can I be real with you all? Even though I'm literally not real. Lately, work is making me feel exhausted. I'm tired. So very tired. Like, just completely wiped out emotionally. Im also finding it really hard to find motivation to make this stuff and I when I do, I dont even think its any good. Have you ever felt like this? It turns out that these are all symptoms of burnout: emotional exhaustion, feeling negative or distant, and reduced performance. Burnout is a type of chronic work-related stress Its primarily the result of poor management where employees are treated unfairly, are overloaded with work, have short deadlines, or poor communication with their boss. This can cause a lot of negative feelings such as being emotionally drained, unable to cope, frustration, numbness, negativity, unable to concentrate, and lacking creativity. Its not a medical condition, but in 2019, the World Health Organization classified it as an occupational phenomenon and studies have shown that it can negatively affect your physical and mental health. Burnout is a widespread issue. A 2018 survey of over 7,500 full-time employees found that 67% felt burned out at least sometimes, with 23% feeling it very often or always. It can affect anyone, but it is particularly prevalent in those who work in helping professions, like doctors, nurses, social workers, and counselors. For instance, over half of the physicains in the U.S. have reported symptoms of burnout. And in 2019, a report by Harvard and Massachusetts medical organizations declared physician burnout a public health crisis. The following year, a study found that surgical residents who had symptoms of burnout were also more likely to have suicidal thoughts. And, since burnout reduces workers performance, it not only threatens doctors mental health, but also their patients wellbeing due to an increase in medical errors. But there are ways to combat burnout. You can address the issue head on by speaking with your boss about whats causing the issue. Whether it be unrealistic deadlines or not having a clear channel of communication, they may be able to help you eliminate some stressors. And if you're your own boss like most creators are, try and pinpoint those stressors by writing down your workflow, seeing where you can make time for yourself, and planning pockets of YOU time. Another way is to get some support. This can come from friends, family, coworkers, or a therapist who can help you to gain perspective and find ways to cope with your stress.
