ok. im really confused.

how do you identify as a man or woman anymore?

nowadays, you can be a man without the specific birth parts. same with being a woman. and you can even be neither.

how are you your gender/sex anymore? just by you saying so? i don’t get it. that doesn’t seem to decide it.

also, classifying people as feminine and masculine feels weird. cause like… who ever said that THIS was masculine, and THIS was feminine? it’s like… pink and dresses are apparently girly, and green and dinosaurs is manly. what? it sounds sexist.

so HOW do you classify yourself as female, male or neither? its not body parts, i guess. being feminine and masculine? but men can be feminine and still identify as male?

HOW DOES GENDER WORK I DONT GET ANYTHING IN THAT SPECTRUM

(( also: ive seen a lot of arguement vids on youtube where people fight about gender… if you can be a man at birth and identify as a woman and people agree you are one without “proof,” then its pretty much the same as being a woman at birth and identifying as a dog without proof? is it? im not trying to be homophobic. but i keep seeing this stuff and its hurting my brain. i KNOW men can identify as women and such, and i think its fine… but these arguments make it really confusing. ))

because people believe they are different, but they are normal just like every other person, for some reason they feel like they are female or male but they are not, they just feel that way and say that they ARE that way but they're not, basically, they are male or female but they feel like something else and so they say they are that other gender

Let me ask you this, GoldenEagle.

If the bible told you that there were only two animals; dog and cat, and no matter how many other animals you have been shown, you still go by the bible and say that there are only two animals, dogs and cats.

You see a giraffe, a hippo, elephant, tigers, coyotes, and other things.

But according to the bible there can only be two animals.

That's why I responded the way I did.

But there aren't other types

Sometimes there can be.

Sometimes people are born with both kinds of gender parts. What would you refer to them as if you met someone who had that situation?

You can't, because you base everything on physical instead of spiritual.

Spiritually, if said person wants to be a different gender or no gender at all, they can be that. They are that. No one ever said it changes their physical gender, because that's just for continuing the human species.

All I'm trying to say is, when you think about it, we don't really need gender. Humans are humans. They shouldn't be treated a different way according to their beliefs, whatever that may be, and they certainly shouldn't be called wrong because they SPIRITUALLY feel a different way than what OTHER PEOPLE see them as.

I hope you took the time to really read this. I'm not trying to come at anyone, just change the way they see things a little.

…and I thought I understood things

I HAVE A HEADACHE

Maybe your defined as one cause.. you just feel like that. thats why. because sometimes girls feel, know, they like other girls, guys other guys. And some people feel, or know, that they are the other gender so they become it. And other people label that delusional, but it isnt. They feel born in the wrong body or that the label they were given and all societies connections doesnt fit the real them. Maybe gender is defined by how you feel is you.

I mean, heck, gender is really just a word in the english language… it doesnt exactly exist.

It's biological. However, recently it seems like being one or the other (or neither, or both) mentally has exploded in popularity. What I don't get is why it became so trendy all of a sudden. Sure people were like that before, but why is it that everybody suddenly decided to become another gender?

Anyway, masculinity is simply what society has accepted over time as traits attributed to successful males. Throughout history, men have been responsible for caring for their women and his family (hear that, feminists? Yeah, guys have always been the ones doing all the work. All women had to do was clean and cook.). Therefore, the traits accepted as "manly" may differ throughout cultures but examples include muscle bulk (showing strength in the face of work, threats, hunting, war, etc, as well as simple attractiveness and an indicator of good health), deep voices (because women are typically physically unable to mimic the tone of a man's, which is why men and women sing in different parts in a choir such as men with baritone and women with soprano), etc.

However, this has changed over time. Now, some people might consider a big truck manly while other might consider a dude in pink tights doing acrobatics manly. It's just what society accepts and deems.

Wow I just realized I've actually got something to say about this topic. Ask me anything, folks.

…So you oppose women’s rights?

Its not someone just waking up one day deciding to 'become' another gender. There is a science behind being transgender. We aren't just pretending to be another gender, we are that gender. And this isnt new. For example, native tribes believed in something called two-spirit, where they believed they had both a male and female spirit residing in their bodies. There are many more examples, but this is just a more prominent one.

I can explain so many things over the years that have made me realize I am trans. Its not something that just popped out of nowhere. As a kid, I never enjoyed girly things. If you put a dress of anything in my hair, I would cry and scream at you. Growing up, my only friends were boys. So much so that I considered myself one, even at a young age. I refused to take part in anything society considered 'feminine'. If my hair got past my shoulders, I hated it and felt uncomfortable. If you think that I am just a girl pretending to be a man, then don't talk to me.

Also, are you saying you oppose feminists and women's rights? Sure, men have been off 'being manly' and 'fighting wars', but women have a long history of fighting for their rights as well. All they want is to be considered equal to men. Is that so much to ask? No, they aren't crazy. No, they aren't asking for too much. They just want people to stop viewing them as weak, frail individuals who can only cook and sew, and who's only duties are to take care of their children and be dainty and pretty, because that's not what they are. In my opinion, that's an outdated and very misogynistic way of thinking.

Also, so what if a dude is in pink tights? Clothing has no gender. You can be a man and wear a dress, it doesn't matter. Women can wear suits as well. Men can like pink things and women can like trucks. It makes no difference. People can and should wear what makes them happy and comfortable in their own skin. If it makes someone feel better about themselves, what's the issue?

Women can wear suits? Because I’ve always wanted to wear one! With a fedora! And be called “Mr”! (No, I’m not trans, and I feel 100% like a girl)

Dang, me too. If someone called me sir I would be so happy. Also, I dont want a real mustache, but for some reason if I had a fake mustache I would really like that. Yet I am definitely female.

People be typing entire essays here.

For the most part, I don't think duke meant to be offensive. He was just explaining the way people used to think of women and men in the PAST and compared that to how people think now. I don't think that necessarily reflects his own opinions... The feminists comment wasn't ideal though.

I’m probably the only (or one of the only) person that’s apart of LGBT+ (I’m asexual, aka ace) that doesn’t type full-on essays.

I just type a few sentences, and boom. That’s it.

There would be much less confusion if humans didn't have to have things be a certain way all the time.
