actually, I don't know! but here is what I think:
It takes pressure around it that is created when the on switch is pressed. it takes that pressure and make electricity , electricity then move on its own around the wires and when it reaches the component (lets just say a light bulb) the visuals of light is created because of the speed.
(This may not be true because like I said, I don't actually know.)
