River was a little excited to be heading to her new school. She compilated reasons why in her head as she stepped off the bus that morning: new people, new things, new classes. Basically because everything was new. But River was dreadfully shy, and she would probably end up making painful conversations with others. But she took a deep breath and walked inside.
The school was a monster school, a haven for children with demonic and angelic powers. She saw a girl with many heads, all waving around like Medusa. As she walked to her first class, math, she noticed a girl with dark features. A werewolf, she guessed. The day went by slowly, but she had plenty of surprises.
River was an odd monsteress. Her parents were Japanese-American, and she had no idea what monster type they were. Frankly, she could only guess at what type she was, because she had some signs of being one type of monster, then another. Her parents simply told her it was because she was growing, that very rarely would someone know for sure their monster type unless a witch doctor had told them.
And no one's told me, she thought.
The werewolf girl was talking to some kids at the cafeteria during lunch, but she walked swiftly away. River's interest piqued. She hadn't talked to anyone at all during the day, determined to stay low, she would talk to people the next day after learning her way around the place. It was quite a big school, after all. River watched her, from the other side of the room. She watched with her big dark eyes, but then the bell rang. She got up, and someone caught her from behind. Whirling, she saw a group of 3 people: 2 girls and a guy. They smiled at her in a sort of creepy way and greeted her like she was a friend.
"Hello!" said one of the girls. "What type of monster are you?"
River opened her mouth and shrugged. "I... I don't really know, actually."
The boy nodded knowingly. "The school has a witch doctor. Go ask him."
"Her," said one of the girls. "You're so sexist, Randy! We have two doctors."
"Yes, but Dr. Danxi is much better at pinpointing monster types, Angelic." said Randy.
"Are you an angel?" River asked the first girl, who had white hair with blonde streaked thrice through it. The girl nodded and said that her name gave it all away, but the boy interrupted her.
'Maybe we can help. What can you do?"
River looked up with big eyes. The boy took a step back and said, "There's some baby siren in there somewhere, apparently. Do you frequently get your way at home?" he asked, disoriented.
"Yeah, I guess, but I don't really try. I'm a good kid, I guess."
"That's good. Um, what else?"
"Well, I can also do this," River raised her hands and some black stuff whirled around them, up and down.
'There's some demon in there too. Which type, winged or un-winged?"
"Winged," said Angelic, pulling a dark red wing from River's back. "So, you're part siren and part winged demon. Nice combo. You're of the sky and of the water. I'm guessing your mum is a siren and your dad is a demon, right?"
Rive shrugged. "I can't tell."
"What about your siblings?"
"My brother is part vampire, from my mother's side, but he's against drinking blood from humans, like most of them. He prefers fruit juice, so yeah. My sister's part siren too." River said after thinking.
"What's their other parts?"
"My brother's also half werewolf, but he didn't get the gene that makes him turn every full moon, he only turns on a red moon. So, only about once a year. My sister is also part werewolf, but she turns on a blue moon, every 2 or 3 years." River took a breath, not used to talking so much, and Randy and Angelic nodded, along with the last girl.
"Well, you're totally a combo, which is sorta rare, monsters usually stick to their own kind, but yeah. Well, good luck, kid." said the last girl, and she waved goodbye to River as they walked off: "But don't forget to visit the doctor just in case!"
River continued her day, still thinking about the werewolf girl, who had the confidence she didn't. Maybe they could be friends.
