Vietnam, Firebase Ripcord
July 1st, 1970
A helicopter bringing in supplies noticed a large purple thing floating in the air. The pilots thought of it as a illusion, as it had been a while since they slept and they were confused. They offloaded the supplies and went to the barracks. Suddenly, a roar and a explosion shredded a nearby pillbox into pieces, showering sand, debris, and human over the soldiers rushing out to investigate. Suddenly, the trees were alive, and the Viet Cong rushed out, but were also confused at the presence of the purple ship. It then opened up and out dropped… spiny little grey things. The Viet Cong, believing this to be a scheme set up by the Americans, pointing their weapons towards the Americans, when suddenly, one of the Americans limped in screaming he was burned, and then both sides realized that it wasn’t a scheme set up by either side, it was clearly a third invasion by an unknown entity. The sudden attack was in the news, and confused audiences around the world. They would not hear from the fire base no more.
The distant future
Kentucky
It had been 3 decades after the last scrap of Kentucky was ransacked by the Covenant. The dead Marines were recovered, but the base was overgrown by weeds and damaged vehicles, Human and Covenant. The Covenant’s remains were recovered by their own, but the Spartan was never found. The area where they fell was scoured over and over again, to no avail.
It was a calm, sunny day. Some of the children of the surviving people of Kentucky were playing around the remnants of the base and the destroyed vehicles. They were enjoying themselves until one kid wanted to play “king of the hill” on top of all crashed Hornet. Of course, children cause accidents and one of them accidentally kicked the missile launcher, firing off a lopsided missile, which crashed into a hill. The kids ran off, and the “hill” wasn’t a hill, but actually a living person.
Spartan-001.
He was the Spartan casualty never recovered during the Second Human Covenant War. He was conked out and trampled on by the Covenant, only woken up when that stray missile hit his shields. His suit powered on, and his A.I, Nightingale, blasted earrape into his ear to wake him up. He woke up, and said “Alright, alright, I’m up.” “You have some major lacerations, let me dispense some biofoam.” said Nightingale. The Spartan then recharged his shields, threw down a grenade, and launched himself out of the rock. He was now back and ready for some more action. But what he realized was the war he was fighting was long over. “Woah, woah, take it easy big guy, you’ve been stuck there for a while.”, said Nightingale. “We lost everything, everybody.”, she said. The Spartan kicked away a corroded Jackal harness, and picked up a Magnum. When he cocked the slide back, the whole weapon fell apart, and he found that all the critical components were stolen, broken, or rusted. He then walked away and threw the useless thing at a jackal harness, which crumpled. He then walked towards the globbed and overgrown remains of the base. Very little “weapons” were left, so the Spartan decided to go with a rusty nuke. Somehow, a group of grunts rode out E the terror, and begin attacking 001. He chucked the nuke at the grunts, who attempted to run away but died in the resulting explosion. The Spartan then saw the settlement where the kids came from. He walked in and many eyebrows were raised and heads were turned. The Spartan then found the Marines from 3 decades earlier. “Status report”, he said. The Marines all turned to one another and started laughing, and then the CO, who survived through the ordeal, told the Spartan they lost all assets, but won the war. The Spartan moved on and found a crashed Warthog. He then reassembled it, and drove off.
