The small town had always been called Rossville, even though it was deserted, by citizens of the surrounding, larger cities. They scoffed at the way it had fallen into disrepair, the way a once handsome town had collapsed into such ruins and moldering wood. Even though it was an empty area to an outsider, inside it was thriving with life: the life of animals that had been left behind by their owners when the new empires had been the source of glory to lure them away and discard their furry or scaley or many legged companions. These companions, in turn, had fled and established a somewhat peaceful clan of their own.
Many a creature abided by the clan's rules until the day when a sly and deceivingly brilliant mongrel dog had broken the most important law of all: "You shall not kill one of your own unless under defense ". This law meant that no creatures that were apart of the clan could not kill one of the same clan, unless they were defending themselves. But the dog murdered for sport and fun, therefore being banned and destroying the clan forever.
Or so it seemed...
