A good way to remember that complementary is 90 degrees is that 90 is a satisfying degree. It's like a compliment to degrees... it's complementary. And supplementary is the opposite.

I remember the difference of complementary and supplementary like this:

Complementary is 90 degrees, right? Since c is before s in the alphabet, it has the lesser amount of degrees.

Do you follow?

Supplementary is 180 degrees, it comes after c, so it has a greater amount of degrees.

It means that two angles add up to 90 degrees, so 60° and 30° are complementary angles, and 5° and 85° are complementary angles. The angles don't need to be next to each other. The other type of angle is called supplementary, which would add up to 180. If you know that two angles are complementary you can figure out one by knowing the other just by doing 90-(known angle).
